The only people who like Houston are people who are from there and have been no where else. Houston sucks, the people are "slow" the weather is the worst in America. Yes there are freeways out of town but they are always under construction or shut down because some dumb *** ran across the freeway to get a pack of cigarettes and got hit by a truck so DPS shuts it down to investigate for a day and a half. There is trash everywhere (especially diapers and 40 bottles). Everything is spread out so if you don't have a car you are going to have a bad day unless you enjoy walking in the street because there is only a mile of sidewalk in all of 600+ square miles Houston. The bars and clubs are centered in 4 areas (unless you include the little mexican bars on every corner where everyone speaks spanish) and all but 2 buses stop running by 11 or 12 so plan on driving home drunk. Houston is completely flat, you can put a ball any where and it will stay. The mosquito's are the size of dogs (almost). Houston sucks so bad it has rubbed off on surrounding communities like The Woodlands "The fakest town in Texas"The only good thing about Houston are all the tall buildings here which I enjoy looking at on my way out of town. |

I lived in Houston for a while, and I like it there. Yes, the traffic can be a mess sometime, but then again that is life in a big city. It's the same in Chicago, New York, LA, etc. I like all the ethnic resturants in Houston, and ice skating at the Galleria Mall. Six Flags is great, lots of great events at the Astrodome, etc. |

I am originally from California, moved to Houston three years ago. I can honestly say that this is a fabulous place to live. And contrary to what others are saying, the traffic is no worse than other big cities - in fact, it is much better than Southern California. As for the heat and humidity - yes, it is bad here. But the homes are beautiful, the people are friendly, the location is perfect (near many other cities - centrally located in the countery, near Galveston and the Gulf of Mexico) and there is a lot to do here. Six Flags has closed, but there is still SplashTown, the new Schlitterbahn in Galveston, NASA, The Galleria, The Woodlands, Lake Conroe, etc., etc..
I often read on Yahoo Answers that people do not like Houston - yet the vast majority of people I talk to here in the Houston area love it here. And in my neighborhood, on my street alone most of the people are from other states that have moved her because of the quality of life, the price of homes, the beauty and the Texas pride.
I think that just coming to a city for a day or so doesn't give you a good idea of all that it has to offer. Houston is a wonderful city. |

My wife and I moved to Houston from Omaha, Nebraska about 10 years ago. The pros are we don't have to mow the lawn in the winter here, nor shovel snow. The housing is affordable as well, and there's plenty of good food to eat, and plenty of good jobs.
The cons are yes it's humid, mosquitoes are bad right now with all the rain we're having, occasionally flooding in some parts, and the traffic is generally not much fun. But yes, we still like living here and don't ever intend on moving back to Nebraska! |

I am a Houston native, but I know alot of people who have moved here from various parts of the country. The general consensus is it pretty much sucks. Too hot, WAY too humid, horrible traffic, the people aren't all that nice anymore. Everything is overcrowded. It takes forver to go from one side of the city to the other. On the good side... housing is more affordable than the rest of the country, as are gas prices. The nightlife and food are good if you're into that... the job market is good. |

I visited Houston a few years ago for a wedding. I found the traffic to be horrendous, but then it IS a big city. I enjoyed a lot of the restaurants and found most of the locals to be quite friendly. I would go back there again for a visit. |

I've known people from foreign countries who did not really like it here that much and I also knew someone from Dallas, who also used to live in Atlanta who also did not like it there.
I've noticed that most people I've known from L.A., Chicago and even NYC did not like Houston much.
Hell, I'm even from Houston and cannot stand it. |

*Laughs* Only someone that hasn't lived in the north can say something like this question. You've no idea just how better and nicer the people are who live here. If you're the bitter, negative, unfriendly type, by all means help yourself to city living in the north. You'll feel at home there. Try Philly, NYC, Washington DC, or Baltimore...you'll come home crawling for your unhappy Houston. Only that, you'll pay about twice as much for a smaller condo or town home than you did for your place in Houston. God bless Houston. |

I went there to go to the six flags there, and it was okay, I wouldn't call it cool, or exciting, well maybe for someone who hasn't gone, but it's okay. |

I'm not from Houston, and I think it's boring. And they seem to wanna be like people from other states too. No one's realistic. |
