Do you prefer Dallas or Austin, TX?

Austin hands down.

Having a more educated and friendly populous, makes it a happier place to live.

Aside from that, there's the lower crime rate, better drivers, small town feel with big city convenience, greener environment, live music and other entertainment scenes, etc.

I could go on and on about how great Austin is, but the only positive thing I can say about Dallas is: it is easier to find a job there. Not necessarily better paying, but a job.

Austin wins hands down.

This shouldn't even be allowed as a question as the answer is just too clear!

Sure, Dallas is nice, they have the train and a nice downtown, oh and that show named after it from 30 years ago, but come on!

Austin is the live music capital of the world, people! Austin is moving forward economically while still holding on to its green roots. Its a great place to raise a family and enjoy the natural beauties of Central Texas. This short list should pretty well sum it up for anyone who has ever visited: Stubb's BBQ, Whole Foods Market, Antone's, Town Lake, The Backyard, the Capital (which is taller than the one in Washington) Lake Travis, Willie Nelson, Lance Armstrong and the University of Texas! What more could you ask for?

But, if you're not from here and you're not sure - maybe you should stay where you are because speaking for native Austinites: we can appreciate it and won't exploit it - too many people are finding our little secret.

Austin Baby!!! Hook 'em!!!!

Lived in Dallas for 4 years and have been in Austin for almost 7 now. Tough decision, but I'd have to say I prefer Austin. Kind of like comparing apples to oranges though. Dallas has much more formal events to ofer since it is a bigger city (Go Mavs, Cowboys, Rangers, Dallas Stars) and more developed symphonies and ballet productions. Restaurant selection is much more extensive is Dallas, but Austin features more individually owned and unique places as opposed to large chain restaurants like in Dallas. The atmosphere in Austin is what really puts it over the top. So many outdoor activities to do in Austin as well as the whole UT community. Austin wins in a tight race. Luckily we've managed to get most of our friends who lived in Dallas to move down here. Biggest adjustment is probably the dress code!

I lived in Dallas from 1994-2004 and have lived in Austin since 2004. No question that Austin is better for my lifestyle. I am a stay at home mom with kids...so much to do in Austin, more family centric, homes/neighborhoods are more 'neighborly' and Austin is just a prettier area. I live in a small subdiv near Avery Ranch. I lived in both Dallas and Dallas 'burbs. Dallas can be fun but Austin is so much nicer to live in.

Austin, baby! I lived in Austin my whole life, until last September when I moved to the Big D. Big mistake! I drive back to Austin almost every weekend! I can't wait to move back! Everything is just better there. Dallas is over-populated, and even though Austin is getting that way too, the folks down there are much more down to Earth and real! The diversity is great there, too. It's hard to get bored. It's so pretty...Dallas is just a smoggy, nasty, big city!

Neither.
But I hate Texas in general.
No particular reason, just do.
Sorry.

Well, the only time I drove through Texas it hailed and put dents in my car... maybe I'm just grudging a little.
