Los Angeles. Because i want to be a star like Paris Hilton. |

Los Angeles, San Francisco and San Diego are all great cities and have very little in common. I don't know why people keep trying to compare them and make it seem like they are competitive with each other....They are nothing alike |

I agree with Paris' sentiments. Both are great in their own way. And they're so different that it is solely a matter of taste. |

Each has its pros and cons.
I'm guessing the people who liked SF weather like fog and rain in the winter. Sure, SF is cooler in the summer, but sometimes it's downright cold. Fog, etc. LA has much milder winters, but summers inland can be very hot. But I'll take the 350 days of sunshine, thanks.
Culture-wise, I would say SF has an edge. Not much gets said about LA culture, but it's there. Now that there are some great venues, you have many more events. But we do have a number of things that you don't get in SF: The Hollywood Bowl, a natural ampitheater where outdoor concerts are superb under the stars, well into the fall.
For food, I would say LA can't be beat. You have such a wide variety of ethnic groups in LA, that the food choices are innumerable. And LA haute cuisine has grown into its own.
Sure, LA is a big jumble. LA grew horizontally because that was the easiest way to develop. And the car and tire companies wanted it that way (did you see Chinatown and "Who Framed Roger Rabbit"? True story).
So, overall, I'd give it to LA. After all, this is the LA forum. |

Completely different lifestyle. SF is almost like Manhattan (real city.)
Very compact, beautiful, terrible weather (how can anybody say SF has good weather? It's COLD in summer there!) Very good public transportation. You can live there and not own a car (parking is a huge problem.) If you like city life, go there.
LA is spread out. It's like a bunch of completely different places put together. The weather is better, but can be hot. Public transportation is not good. You'll need a car. Traffic is bad! But it's a nice place. I know both cities and prefer LA.
SF is a beautiful place, but... SF is a very liberal city, almost like living in a socialist state. |

I prefer San Francisco, for the scenery and the lower temperatures. |

Totally different. If you are from the East Coast, SF is more like Boston - compact, culturally rich and intellectual and usually COLD. LA is spread out, auto-dependent and well, LA. I'm a native Californian and don't like either. I live in a small town on the central coast that is like neither. People not from Cali think that Cali is either SF or LA. It's a big state and pretty diverse and most of the state is very different from these two places. |

San Francisco - better weather, more vibrant community, better housing and food, better transportation, more job opportunity
Los Angeles is just a big city with a constantly changing culture. It's just a big jumble in my opinion. The streets are bad and the libraries, etc. are abysmal. It's like a biological growth instead of a well-organized community. Also, it gets quite hot in the summer in Los Angeles. |

Los Angeles b/c there is much more to do. Nightlife is better. Warmer all year long. I use to live near SF and don't get me wrong it is beautiful but can get very cold during the winter season. I would have to say the nightlife is a little dull, and they have a lot of tree huggers. Which is fine, but its not for me.
One con to LA is that population is huge and as a result traffice is murderous. |

Scenic beauty, great weather, fantastic restaurants. Also, I spent 32 years there. ;-) |

I prefer L.A. The weather is better and there is a wide array of things to do there. I recently went to San Francisco and was really put off by all of the homelessness, blaintant drug use, and homosexuality. |
