i just recently got back from vegas and saw plenty of families. every hotel now has tons of shops, restaurants, shows, attractions. there are pools, musuems, and plenty of stuff to do. you can even think about taking tours of the hoover dam or the grand canyon. although gambling and night life are very prominent in vegas, families can have a great trip too

Unless you want your kids collecting cards from call girls at every corner, Vegas is definately not for kids, not even older teenagers.

About ten years ago, they tried to make it more family friendy - they failed. As far as I know, they have given up that whole line of advertising and are now again focusing on the "adult playground."

It is now. There is so much to see and do aside form gambling. Just the four or five Cirque de Soleil show will take up most of a week!!! There are indoor shopping arcades and each pool is fab.

I would say families over the age of 18. Not for small children at all. My husband and I were walking the strip towards the Mirage 2 weeks ago and counted 5 guys passing out prostitution flyers as well as 2 of those trucks that advertise prostitutes. Not for children!

Vegas also allows you to walk around with alcoholic beverages any time of the day so if you don't mind explaining to the young ones why the man in front of you is mumbling then by all means take them there.

I know for a fact Wynn and Bellagio frown upon small children in or around their lobby areas. Wynn does not allow strollers in their lobby area. Yes Circus Circus and some of the other themed hotels cater to young children but outside of the themes they still have casinos.

Vegas is an adult playground - plain and simple.

TINKERTOY ..... the 1 & only

About 15 years ago Vegas made a conscious effort to attract families. Consider all of the free things that families can do:

The usual things you will want to see for FREE in Vegas are:

1. Number one on my list is to watch the fountains displays in from of the Bellagio hotel. It usually runs every 15 minutes in summers starting at 3:00 PM; runs continuously until about midnight. Each show is different (there are more than 20 different tunes choreographed) so stay and watch at least 2 or 3. ALSO, go inside the Bellagio hotel to its lobby and view the beautiful glass sculptured ceiling AND the seasonal floral arrangements in the Atrium.

2. The â€œSirens of TIâ€ show (spectacular) in from of the Treasure Island Hotel; it runs every 90 minutes starting at about 4:30 PM.

3. The volcano erupt in from of the Mirage Hotel; starting at dark until midnight.

4. Go down to Freemont Street and see the light show. There are usually 2 or 3 different shows, starting after dark and lasting about 5 or 10 minutes each.

5. Go to the RIO hotel to see the Masquerade in the Sky show. It runs every 60 minutes starting about 3:00 PM; the last show starts at 9:30 PM..

6. Go to the MGM Grand hotel to see the Lion habitat.

7. Go to the Mirage hotel to see the white tigers that Siegfried and Roy used.

8. Go in Caesars Palace and walk through the Forum shops to the first fountain (its spectacular) then take the first fork to the left to go see the aquarium. Then continue on through the shops to the second fountain and wait for the show to start.

9. Go into the Flamingo hotel to see their animal habitat with flamingos and penguins.

10 The Excalibur hotel also has a free show starting at 10:00 AM until 10:00 PM.

11. If you are a Star Trek Fan, go to the Hilton (off the strip) for "Star Trek The Experience"; it cost about $25.

Then there are a whole bunch of things just for kids:

First of all there are a bunch of hotels that have essentially water parks for guests. The Mandalay Bay has the biggest and best wave pool sand beach pool out there, plus it has a lazy river for tubing. You kid will stay busy all day with that. The MGM and Monte Carlo hotels also have wave pools and lazy rivers. The Flamingo has a great pool with a water fall and a water slide, not big but very refreshing and I enjoy it all the time.

In addition, there is a place called "Game Works" which is next door to the MGM, across from NY, NY that has all of the video type games any kid could want. (look for the Coke bottle).

At the other end of the strip is the Circus Circus hotel and casino and it has a huge arcade full of games for kids, circus acts every half hour, and if that's not enough, an indoor amusement park with roller coaster rides and stuff. At the Sahara hotel there is a roller coaster ride, and also one at NY, NY. I will not mention the ride atop the Stratosphere tower, they may be too much for your 10 yr old.

There are movie theaters right on the strip, near the MGM and in the Palms Hotel across from the RIO hotel on Flamingo Avenue. There is also a bowling alley in the Gold Coast Hotel on Flamingo Ave next to the RIO(also a good place for a lower priced buffet) and another bowling alley in the Orleans.

So families going there will have a ball, especially in the great pool areas at hotels and seeing the free stuff., not to mention the Circus Circus stuff.

Vegas is for EVERYONE!! There is so much to do it's crazy!! You can gamble (of course), there are rollercoasters, you can shop, go on tours

Not all of Vegas is for families. BUT, there is plenty of things to do as a family outside of the casinos. There is probably more there for families than most other vacation destinations. As a matter of fact, there is so much for the kids to choose from that they may not be able to do everything.

IMO Children do not belong in Las Vegas. It's truly a city that comes alive at nighttime, when children should be sleeping.

Yes.. I took my son for his 6th b-day to Vegas to see the Blue Man Group, and other kid friendly places....He enjoyed every minute of it. He now refers the city as the city u sleep all day and stay up night to party!!!!
There are a lot to do for ur family in Vegas...it's a matter of planning the activities..

Parts of it, like Circus circus, the Dolphin Show at the Mirage, M&M world and a few others are fun for families, but kids have nothing to doif parents want to go gambling or anything.

I was taken there when I was 14 or 15 years old (about 4 years ago) and had a blast. There were lots of shows (especially magic shows) and enough to do to keep me entertained for a few days.

Btw, they have ended the "family friendly advertising" and the new marketing campaign is something like, "Whatever happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas."
However, I'd still say you and your family will have a great time.

No. But the irony is that its the fastest growing city in the United States.
