They should get denied if they are tested positive |

yes and they should loose those benefits if they use drugs |

I never thought about that. Its a great idea! It would ensure people are working to find a job, and not blowing the cash they make on drugs. |

Definetely. |

good idea. all food stamps/welfare cases should be individually analyzed to weed out the bad ones. Most of those people just need to get off the damn couch and get a job. I dont care where, just do it! |

I think they should because maybe they spend all of their spending money on drugs and not groceries? |

You know what? I have nothing agianst people who need the support of food stamps - I'm glad there is a system in place to help those who need it. BUT - What DOES piss me off is when the person in front of me at the store uses their stamps and then as I'm walking out I see them getting into a car WAY nicer than mine. I understand that everyone goes through hard times but if you're driving around in a brand new mercedes benz... I HIGHLY doubt that you need those damn stamps the rest of us are paying for. Hmph. |

I've never been on food stamps but I just think that going to get food stamps in the first place is pretty humbling, who wants to do that? Lets just pour salt into the would and rub until it stings. There are programs like work 1st so that if people wanted a job they could get one.
lets get off our high horses and treat people like people, not garbage. |

i totally agree wth you. i mean why should we support people who are ruing their live with drugs. i think they should have at least a chance to get clean and if they do thats good for them |

*drug tested
*not be allowed to own a brand new SUV or business ( I see that happening all the time)
*not be allowed to use food stamps for a organization, business
( I see that happening at least 2 times a week- Lansing is aware by our numerous calls to them and doesn't seem to care)
*must get off food stamps when child is old enough to go to preschool
*no more than 5 children in one family to be allowed to partake the benefit (if Mom is giving birth every year or 2 so she can stay on Welfare )( I see a lady every so often who just had her 8th child and has never got off food stamps )
for the gal below me:
"average amount of money a person receives monthly in food stamps is $102.00 or $1,224 a year."
IF its only for one person- add a child or children to the equation and its more $ |

it will cost money to drug tesst all them people. But the cost will outweigh the failed screeners and will open a window for them to get help or the government denies your free income. this particular program would also help create more jobs and create a new buldings for the welfare drug screens...I think its a great idea !!! |

If I became down on my luck ( which can happen to anyone, especially with the economy being what it is now), I would be insulted if they drug tested me. I have never done drugs, but I would be insulted. Their job is to give help to those in need, they are not an employer hiring you for a job. |

I don't think so. Drug testing is invasion of privacy, but that's just my opinion. Although, I can see your point. If a person's addicted to meth and that's what they spend all their money on, instead of food, then they don't deserve food stamps, they should be in rehab. |

Yes, they should. It's not fair that people are not being proactive to better themselves while using up taxpayer's money. There are more important things to use the money for if people aren't interested in helping themselves. |

That question is toooo big to take on. We have a mess with all our hand outs and now the economy in the toilet. Soon we won't be able to give out any food stamps or anything it will be each on their own. |

I suppose it would help all the people out there on drugs, but what about the people just using the system. You don't even have to be legal, at least not in Florida to get food stamps and what not. Something like this will probably never come into effect if proposed. |

not everyone on food stamps has a drug problem, some are just poor! By the way who is gonna pay for the drug tests? The taxpayers, do you know how much they cost, $40 and up each! multiple that by the thousands of people who collect food stamps and the bill just get higher and higher! |

Sounds fabulous to me. I was actually thinking more along the lines of Welfare LOANS instead of free money and extras. As a full time college student (30k in student loan debt) living in a small apt. barely surviving and sometimes starving, I get extremely mad to see tax dollars coming out of my check because when I go to school (at EMU) next thing I hear is my classmate talking about buying some Ugg Boots with her Bridge Card. I just sit there and get mad, thinking gosh there goes my tax money to some lazy bum. And I go to Kroger for the 10 for $10 sale and load up on Kroger brand Rice a roni and mac n cheese. I'm lucky if I have food to eat for dinner and I get headaches all the time for not eating proper, nutritious meals. I get sick from it but yet I have to have a baby to get any other benefit. I also have no health insurance. But you know what, my $18000 a year (minus tax is about $14000 take home if I am lucky) disqualifies me from medicaid or the same health benefits a lazy person would get. And oh one more gripe, right now I am sitting here fighting a migraine for 3 days and I need Imitrex to get rid of it, but since I no longer have insurance, $40 per pill is not possible. I already contacted Glaxo Smith Kline to ask them for help but they won't help me because I am technically not in poverty. I sure feel poor :( BS. I hate this city. |

It`s people like you who should mind their own business and worry about your self and not what others do!
Instead of thinking of ways to punish people who are already down on their luck, why not try to start a new business and then you can hire someone who is unemployed and let them help themselves out of a rut.
self righteous people need a good kick in the ***, no matter how good you have it in your life you do not realize how easily it can be lost and find yourself in the same position as the people you criticize.
GET OFF YOUR HIGH HORSE! |
