Royal Oak is a really cool town- I don't live far from it so I go there often. It's really gay friendly, open minded and has good vibes. It has it's own little downtown area but is also so close to Detroit so you can go down to the "big city" for shows and drinks easily! I love Ann Arbor, but yes, I would definitely live in Royal Oak. |

It WAS a interesting city
I liked downtown Royal Oak in the late 80's when it was famous for its many antique stores
before way too many bars/restaurants appeared
it was quaint
now its just a city with overpriced inflated homes
and lots of "odd" people |

RO isn't bad. Pretty active place. But would I live there? Nope, I moved up to White Lake from Livonia 10 years ago. I like the country feel, lakes, parks and lower traffic levels out here. Schools are very good and almost no crime. |

Royal Oak is a cool little Urban Center much Like Evanston near chicago but without the lake. I prefer Detroit over it though because it's bigger and alot more happening. Although Detroit has more crime, it's not so in the downtown and new center areas where I live. |

I'm from Royal Oak and I have had people tell me they're jealous of me b/c I'm from here. It's a very nice town with a happening downtown, more so in the summer. The residents are very nice and very concerned about issues that are happening in the town. We tend to be Democratic and are very involved with the city. There is a rise in the yuppie population here too. RO is a great city to live in! |

Nope. The houses are nearly identical to the houses in neighboring city Ferndale, but the prices are nearly double. Uneven sidewalks, extremely narrow streets, and jerry-rigged homes give one the impression that you're in a welfare-dependant city, which clearly you're not. But aside from the visual appeal (or, non-appeal), the downtown area is ADORABLE, just quaint. I do enjoy visiting, but there are far cuter neighborhoods with more bang for your buck. However, prices may be reasonable right now with the subprime crises. |

Royal Oak is a pretty nice place. A little younger and hipper than I am and a lot more leather and sidewalk freaks than I'm used to seeing here in Ann Arbor. |
