Does LA have the rudest/worst drivers in the world or what?

I'm from No Cal and was driving on Sunset in West Hollywood last week and you wouldnt beleive how many times I got the middle finger because I was sight seeing.

I'll probably catch hell for this but I think LA drivers are the best in the country. They're just impatient when outsiders move slow and don't pay attention, swerving as they stare at the beautiful sights, or taking their time at the light, or not growin a pair to turn out of a street. Since it's so fast paced in LA and everyone generally has pretty good distances to travel to work, and leisure activities and on a tight schedule usually they can be rude if you don't get with the program. We used to believe when I lived there that it was the tourists not the locals that made trouble with the traffic because if you're not aggressive it can be overwhelming.
I came from cleveland ohio where there isn't traffic like LA and everyone drives around the speed limit because the highway patrol or locals would pull you over for 2 over. It took me about six months to get fully comfortable with the way they drive and the traffic patterns. Now back in Ohio I get the finger for being too LA aggressive.
Be more purpose driven when you drive, get to where you're going then sight see. Don't do it from your car and you'll fit right in.

Rick, are you sure they weren't just hitch-hiking ??? I see a lot of people doing that when I drive around L.A.

No, L.A. drivers aren't that bad. They're just very impatient, so you better not get in their way when they're changing lanes. Other than that, they're generally efficient and safe.

If you're from the Central Valley or Rural North, your reaction is understandable. The pace of life is different in urban areas. Your sightseeing is interfering with other peoples' commutes, and that is unacceptable for city folk.

But if you're coming from the Bay Area, then you have absolutely no reason to complain. San Francisco is just as rude as any of the Westside communities. And that doesn't include the lack or parking, or the infuriating love S.F. locals have for snitching to the cops (even if you're parked only one inch over the property line). As for San Jose, it's basically just L.A. - a mess of freeways and wide boulevards - with slower moving traffic.

Try coming to NYC. From where I'm at, we got rude/worst drivers there. lol

Your O.C. Paisano
People, look at the complete picture. Sunset Blvd is not a good example nor is Wilshire or Hollywood Blvds.Maneuvering between a Benz and a Rolls is no walk in the park. . In L.A. the economy is flourishing (port, imports, software, metals, tourism, etc.)and the weather is perfect. Jobs are everywhere and residents have to live in the suburbs and work in the big city. Thus time is money. A person has to be a little aggressive or you will never get on the freeway. If you use road courtesy (blinkers, thank you waves, quick flash of the lights), you can change lanes or accomplish what you want. The speed limit is just "the basic speed law". In other cities watch the drivers of opposing traffic make left turns right in front of you. L.A. drivers are considerate. Cab drivers are another subject.

No, that would be Boston!

I have lived all over the USA and didn't find them to be rude, just fast paced. You have to move quickly and don't turn your turn signal on until the last second you want to get over!

Oh and Florida is REALLY annoying to drive in!

Actually, Toronto Canada was pretty bad if you count all of North America.

Before becoming disabled, I was a professional driver logging about 100,000 miles a year. While the traffic in the Los Angeles area can definitely seem trying at times, I can assure you that there are other cities around the country that have far ruder drivers.

I have found that the "finger" gesture does not really indicate that the person is a poor driver, but rather just an ignorant one who cannot express them selves in any other manner.

While I agree with you that LA has awful drivers (I hate driving in LA more than NYC), driving on streets with heavy traffic isn't exactly the best or safest place to sight-see.

Muppet
No, I don't think they are any worse than drivers from Dallas, which is where I'm originally from.
Yesterday when I was driving to work, a guy with Texas plates driving a Dodge ram pick-up didn't think the people were driving fast enough down a 2 lane road for him so he passed everyone by driving in the bike lane. What was funnier was he ended up being stuck at the same stop light as the rest of us, he just beat us to it.

We don't care if you are sight-seeing, just go the speed limit.

I think I flipped you the bird once or twice. Sorry, but I was trying to get to a club.

OK, seriously you probably are right. After all, LA is the freeway shooting capital of the world.

missmiss
Just visited L.A. and the traffic sucks big time...but the drivers are way more friendly than here on the east coast. Plus having a GPS probably kept us from getting the bird.
