Yes. I HATE that church! Try getting on 59 from Buffalo Speedway, there is always horrible traffic around that place. I went to so many great concerts there and it's just too sad that it's a huge, commercial church with fanatics throwing enough money at Olsteen that he was able too buy the place and put his name on the building!
It just reminds me that I now live in the Bible Belt, how depressing.
Sorry couple, I just don't like hypocrites |

I must be really old...when I was a kid, my mom and dad would take me to the Summit to see the Houston Aeros...and I'm talking the WHA Aeros...with Gordie Howe's entire family playing...
And some guy named Moses Malone playing for the Rockets...
and the circus.... |

Sure do!
I went to a BeeGees' concert there in 79'. Yes, the BeeGees.
John Travolta came on stage and danced to a Saturday Night Fever song. Looked strange as he had a beard. He was in Houston filming the Urban Cowboy at that time.
The next year,a couple of my friends and I got in some trouble one night after a few beers. We decided to put the Toyota 4X4 to work and the Summit offered the closest thing to a hill in Greenway. The sides of the Summit had sloping earth embankments down to the street so we started four wheeling up and down them. Let's just say HPD was less than impressed with our actions.
Then there was the fun of watching pi slamma jamma play basketball there and New Year ZZ Top concerts. |

I just wished that stupid church would just DISAPPEAR. It makes Houstonians look like a bunch of religion fanatics. |

You might not be as old as you feel. Things changed quickly with the Summit/Compaq/Lakewood building. My 20 year old remembers a Sesame Street show there when she really small. |

I do, in fact I still call it that. It was never the Compaq center to me and it still isn't Lakewood church to me either! |

I saw my first concert there in 1983...Olivia Newton John...LOL. Then I saw Madonna and Cyndi Lauper in 1985. I was in the 5th grade. Beastie Boys opened for Madonna and they were booed off the stage! Who woulda thought that the next year they would become huge! Thanks to my older siblings I was able to go to many concerts at The Summit! Thanks for bringing back old times for me!! Loved this question! Oh yeah, and the Harlem Globe Trotters!! Sesame Street Live...I could go on and on! |

Yeah, I used to watch the ORIGINAL Houston Aeros play hockey in the Summit, back in 1977. I was in high school then.
What's your question again? |

Wow, Sweetmommy sure is tolerant of others, isn't she?
I remember The Summit long before the 90s. I used to watch the Rockets play here in the 70s and 80s. |
