Does the queen of England rule over Hawaii?

Peedlepup
Technically speaking, yes, but only a very tiny part. At Kealakekua Bay, on the big island of Hawaii stands a monument to commemorate the landing of Captain James Cook, a British explorer and cartographer who was the first European to set foot on the Hawaiian Islands, and is credited with their discovery. The land which this monument occupies is owned by the government of Great Britain, so as the Head of State of the British government, Queen Elizabeth does rule over a tiny, tiny part of Hawaii.

Beckee
No. However, you will see the British flag as part of the flag of the State of Hawaii, and the flag of the Kingdom of Hawaii before that. That has to do with an episode in 19th century Hawaiian history.

Also, Kamehameha IV and his wife, Queen Ema belonged to the Anglican church, same as Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth II.

It should be noted that none of 50 states are sovereign, though some folks in Hawaii are working on that.

No. Why would she?

Hawaii became the 50th US state in 1959.

Therefore, we are US citizens are subject to the US Government and it's laws.

Spooky Mouse
Nope.. it is part of the US

Polo

No... It's the 50th State of the United States of America.

scratchingchimp
I can understand the confusion as for some strange reason, they have the Union Jack in the corner of their flag. Hawaii is part of the United Stated.

no, our Queen rules over grt britain, northern ireland and the commonwealth countries.
21 of them.
the reason hawaii has the union jack is because it reveals the British influence over those islands in the late 19th century
hawaii only became part of america in 1959.

No. Hawaii is part of the United States.

nectar_pepsi
No but she used to.

Ron
She probably would have but the U.S. ended up here and took over before the British got here.

hawaii belongs to America.

saraimay75
I certainly hope not.

furiomcc
In a word no.

I can understand how that would be confusing, what with the Hawaiian Flag having the English Flag on it and all, but no, England no longer rules over Hawaii. It became an American state in the 1950's, and a U.S. territory, much like Puerto Rico is now, about 50-100 years before that.

Carla
Of course not. Hawaii belongs to USA not to England.

Gloomyguy

Why- what has it done?

THEAmericanPatriot
??? It's a sovereign state of the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. The queen has NO rights over Hawaii. She's a foreigner there.

funkyman20002000
the queen rules over England not a U.S. State.

DG
How on earth would the Queen of England have any jurisdiction over part of the United States? !

We fought the Revolutionary War to break free babe...that's why you get to see parades and fireworks-and hear firecrackers on the Forth of July 7....!

So--no...she doesn't get dibs on Hawaii. She can visit though..and pay for her hotel bill like the rest of us. England lost it's rule over us in 1776...a few years ago.

There was a ruling family in Hawaii..and they were Hawaiian. Do a google, yahoo or wikipedia search.
