Most definitely.....there could be smaller aftershocks. Just remember to keep your flashlights set up with batteries, your shoes near your bed, make sure to clear the doorways & put together a small emergency kit. This is stuff you should always have ready.....not only after an earthquake. Remember, we do live in the earthquake capital!! Good luck!

Just chill. There could be another one, but chances are that it will be smaller than the 5.6. San Jose is pretty close to the San Andreas Fault. It will happen regularly there. Get used to it. I grew up just down the 101 from there in Salinas. We had more earthquakes there than they did in San Jose.

Nobody can answer that question, but there are usually milder aftershocks. In fact, we're having some - just can't feel them. I've noticed something weird: when there's a strong quake somewhere, a few days later there's another one on the other side of the world.

yes my grandma was watching the news and theres "supposed" to be another one within 72 hours. not sure how big but im pretty sure smaller than the one we just had.

Always possible here in earthquake country, but highly unlikely. Usually one big quake like that relieves the stress on the fault line, and it takes a long time to build up again.

Get over it !!! You live in California, near an area which is known to be seismically active and prone to quakes. You accepted this when you moved into the area and state, or you would not have chosen to live there. Yes, there will be more quakes- and more aftershocks. There was no serious damage from this one, though, so I don't think you need to worry so much. As for the so-called "Big One", scientists having spouting doomsday stories about that for decades, and it still hasn't happened yet. You need to take what you hear and see with a good sized grain of salt, because a lot of it is just hype and scare tactics invented by people in the media out to make quick buck.

This is just something you have to get used to if you want to live in California- there is no way to predict or prevent earthquakes. We can protect ourselves during a quake, but we will never be able to prevent them unless we figure out how to keep the continents from moving and pushing on each other. California is littered with fault lines- eventually, a big piece of the state is going to drop off into the Pacific Ocean, but who knows when that will happen. Worrying about it is a waste of time and energy, and you need to find something else to think about, or better yet, move out of the state into an area that isn't prone to quakes if they bother you this much.

Scientists determine where faults are and how much they need to move in order to release the strain that accumulates because of plate tectonic motions. Different faults release the energy in different ways, so scientists study past earthquakes on each fault to predict the size of possible earthquakes that could occur in the future. They then use information about how long it's been since the last earthquake to estimate the probability that an earthquake will occur in the next few years. Earthquakes occur everyday ,we just don't feel them. If you just experienced an earthquake, then it is not likely you will ever experience another one.

You can bet your sweet bippy there will be another. And
another after that. They seem to hit that area and inland
more very often. I heard on TV they were advising people
to start getting their emergency kits ready and waiting and
stocking up on necessities. For no one can predict where
the big one will hit, or when. They only say it is coming. That
is why many people have been migrating to northern states
for many years now. So much so, that those states want the
door closed to more arrivals. So if you plan to stay, plan for
more to come. As they surely will. I remember two I experience in San Jose and they were scarey being home
alone. There's no place to run and there's no place to hide.

There are dozens of earthquakes EVERY SINGLE DAY in California. It is a natural phenomenon. If you are not used to it (and sometimes even if you are), it can be very scary as there is no accurate way to predict an earthquake.

I'm sorry to tell you that the San Francisco Bay area is historically prone to larger magnitude earthquakes, as is the area around Los Angeles.

Generally, when an earthquake occurs it will be followed by a series of aftershocks of equal or smaller magnitude. There is a very small chance the a strong earthquake can be followed by an even larger earthquake, but it is pretty rare. Usually the largest aftershocks occur within 24-48 hours of the main quake.

Nobody knows when but you know there will be another. We are in California! We just had anotherone yesterday at like 3:50 pm and it was 3.5. I was watching the news and they said to be prepared the "Big one" is comming. But you know how people get after something like this happens. Just be sure you have an emergency kit ready. Which remindes me that i need to get one! Funny how no body really cares about all that stuff untill it happens. So I guess your questions shouldn't be ..will there be another? because we all know the answer to that but..when?!
