Girl in the Atl it all goes down....I actually live in south of Atlanta by the Airport(College Park, to be exact) Its alot of crime going on period and expecially in a big city like this...but its not as bad as the news or media makes it out to be...What you can do is, for whatever town your moving to, check with the local court house and as for a listing of the county daily....It will give you all the detailed info on that countys crimes and happenings...good luck girl and have fun!!!

Just askn with a smile
Hmmm...this is a great way to garner very useful information....ask about a city with almost 5 million people and don't narrow it down at all.

Your answer is yes / no and sort of. Hope that helps!

In general, the darker the areas in Atlanta, the worse the crime. If you go to south side which is 90% African American...the crime is bad. If you stay in the north, where it is 95% white, the crime is not bad.

There is crime in every city.
South Atlanta has really bad parts and really good parts. What section are you moving to? College Park, Riverdale, East Point, Peachtree City, Fayetteville, Hapeville, Jonesboro?

HD-Bikerin Fla
I just moved here from South Florida and it's just as bad there as it is here. Always use your common sense and try to avoid putting yourself in vulnerable situations.

A friend of mine moved to Atlanta about a year ago and she loves it. She says it is a very friendly place. I am sure that there is crime just like anywhere (even small towns), use common sense.

Some of the previous posters can barely hide their lack of sensitivity toward minorities. It really depends where in S. Atlanta. East Point just opened a major shopping center and new residential development is being built nearby. Henry County is one of the fastest growing counties in the US, and Fayette has a top notch school system. I would however, stay clear of Clayton County, that has some significant challenges. There are several very nice communities in south Fulton such as Walden Park, Lakes of Cedar Grove and others. As has been stated, there is crime everywhere, but these are a few areas that you can look at.

sam
there's crazy people everywhere. You just have to keep yourself safe regardless of where you're living. Atlanta's a great place to find yourself adapting to though so I think you'll like it. It doesn't matter where you go, you'll always come across mean & nice people. Just keep your guards up.

It all depends, as in every city, where you are in Atlanta. The major problem I have with this town is the road system, I think they had blind rats map out the roads...they wind and wind...oh well, I digress. The violence is around, again, like every city, but it's not too bad. In all I think it's a nice place to live. You'll enjoy it, promise : )

There are pedophiles EVERYWHERE!!!!!!!!! They're not just in Atlanta! Just don't go to the west side or south side of Atlanta because they are wicked as hell!

myhoneylips2002
There is crime in all cities. Not to pick on Atlanta, but South Atlanta is TERRIBLE! I personally do not like Georgia, but since you are moving there, all I can say is good luck, say your prays, and see how it goes!!

Some people like it or love it, but everyone has different taste when it comes to residing some where, I would prefer the northern parts of Georgia if I were considering a move there, but I am not..check out the place before you bounce into it!!

Owlwings
You will be as safe in Atlanta as you will in any major city. Take sensible precautions, be streetwise and don't be afraid. Both fear and foolhardiness play into the hands of such criminals.

Part of Atlanta are rough. Parts of any city can be rough. Stay out of low-income areas; check sex registries - they are many on line listing offenders by zip code. Why don't you do some homework and don't just cast your fate to the wind, especially if you have kids. If you do, then yes....you can be blown away.
