I grew up in Houston my neighborhood was probably 60% black and 40% hispanic. I guess you wouldn't call that diverse. |

Houston. It's very diverse. Lots of intermingling cultures. I grew up as a hispanic kid in a predominantly black neighborhood and went to a predominantly white school. Austin and Houston are great towns to live in. Never boring.

I would say Texas, as a whole, is pretty diverse. I live in Longview, which is in east Texas, between Dallas and Shreveport, La. There are whites, blacks, hispanics, asians, and indians here. I grew up down in Corpus Christi, which is predominately hispanic (I am white). But, honestly, I think you will be welcomed down here. We're friendly people. Best of luck to you! |

I grew up in Houston and the neighborhood I lived in was predominately white. Although, the neighborhoods surrounding mine were mostly Hispanic, African-American, and Asian. I have also lived in other places in hOuston that were mostly Hispanic. I have also lived in Austin and it was all over the board where I lived there. |

I was born in Corpus Christi, which has a huge hispanic population.
Then I moved to Friendswood, which is south of Houston. It was a very stereotypical white, rich, suburban area (Houston, however, is quite diverse)
Now I'm in Seguin, near San Antonio, which also has a large hispanic population.
This website breaks down TX demographics:

It all depends on where your planning on living and what part of the city, becuase your can find a lot of area's that are very diverse. |

I grew up in Dallas and as I recall my whole neighborhood was white. My apartment complex in grad school (Denton) was white and Indian. I live in Spring (outside of Houston) and my neighborhood is evenly split white, Hispanic, black and Asian. |

born and raised in Houston _Southwest side near memorial and katy freeway. At that time it was mostly white sub. families but now there is more of mixed races. Lots of hispanics, black and vietamese. Still a safe area though. Live about 45 miles southwest now in a small farming town which is mostly white/hispanic. Good mix all around though. Texas is great. Born and bread Texan and Texan until I die. |

I grew up in Houston and the neighborhood I grew up in was not diverse at all. It was all Hispanic families. Then when I was in middle school we moved to be closer to my grandmother and that neighborhood was full of old people. Lol. But Houston as a whole is diverse. If you want to live somewhere that has a variety of cultures close at hand, pick somewhere near downtown/montrose/galleria area. The closer you get to downtown, the more diverse it becomes. I live in the galleria area and there are so many different cultures around, and there's always new food to try nearby =) (the other day we ate at an Ethiopian restaurant and it was GREAT!)
Plus, I'm not sure, but I think College Station is a dry county. Don't know if that makes any difference to you. Can anyone else confirm this? |

CS isn't diverse at all. I grew up in Lake Jackson, and it isn't diverse at all either. I would say Houston or Austin is the more diverse parts of the state. The university of Houston is the second most diverse school in the United States. |
