I just get back from Vegas yesterday. I would stay closer to the strip. You can walk to and from the different casinos. On Freemont, I would stay under the lights. Lots of shady people and pickpockets ready to take your stuff. Downtown Vegas(where Freemont is located) is not the best part of town. If you have problems with your budget, think about going through a timeshare presentation...yeah yeah you will have to sit through one of those boring pressure filled presentations, but you can stay close to the strip. You could even get show tickets or money to gamble. Remember you can say NO! and you won't have to buy anything. It may be worth 90 min. of your time.
Here's a website for some deals.

Hi
My advice would be to stay on the Strip - as close to the large hotels as you can. You will then be able to walk along the strip and visit each hotel / casino. It is very easy to walk in Las Vegas and see lots without actually spending too much.
http://www.lasvegashotel.com/ is just one site where you can compare prices of hotels in Las Vegas. |

Your first time I would recommend the Strip. You are probably going to spend most of your time down there anyways. Go to Freemont some evening and judge for yourself if you want to stay downtown the next time you go. I went in 2006 and stayed on the strip and enjoyed. 2007 stayed Downtown and wished we would have stayed on the strip. |

Stay on the Strip, but make a trip to Fremont St to see the light show. You can get reasonable rates at several hotels on the strip. The Stratosphere is very affordable & the rooms are nice. Check out Expedia.com for good deals. |

For your first time, definitely stay on the strip. You can visit downtown and see all it has to offer without staying there this time. For your first time, I recommend these three hotels in order:
1) Luxor - You'll get that full Vegas experience without breaking the bank. Absolute great atmosphere.
2) NY NY - I just enjoy the place, what else can I say.
3) Planet Hollywood - Do some shopping on the mile and party the night away.
Enjoy your stay. |

hmmmm Vegas virgins eh? Probably better on the strip for a 1st visit, but then try downtown area. You cant beat the Golden Nugget. I'm going back there in February and I cant wait!!!!
The strip is very spread out and you will pass a heck of a lot of waste ground and building site to get from one casino group to the next (they are in clusters) Downtown its fall out of one casino into another :) and you will have to visit anyway to see viva vision- its a vegas must! |

You will see more on the strip, walking around will be more fun and you can walk to Fashion Show Mall. |

I agree with Chris. The Mirage is good value and centrally located. |

the strip is the best place to stay in vegas. when we went we wanted to be center-strip so we could have easy access to everything. as you know large hotels are expensive but we found out that the imperial palace (which is pretty much central) has an adjacent building round the back called the 'capri building' its only 50 yds away from the checking in desk at the imperial palace. the rooms are really smart and spacious comfortably fitting 2 queen-sized beds. the prices are also really low because it's not actually the imperial palace itself although it is connected to it. i would really recommend this if you're on a budget as everywhere you wanna go is close to hand. next time we go we would definitely stay there again. marie x |

OK as a veteran of vega you must do this.
Go online and check out Luxor, excalibur and palms. If you prebook over nett then you will get some cracking deals. Get on the strip itself cos its where it all happens. There are loads of cheap motels all over USA and especially vegas but they are very basic.
The Luxor suite costs us about £500 for the week when we go, excalibur was 460 per room per wek last august and palms was about the same.
Try luxor they are advertising standard rooms with baths for $110.00 per night at the moment in March about £55.00. Bargain.
Think ill book one myself. Thats very cheap for vegas.
Also dont forget if you are playing the machines your driinks and cigars are free but you MUST tip the girls £1 per drink/cigar.
Have fun |

Fremont is ok--its more for the older croud. At night, it can be a little rough also. I would go with the strip. There is so much more to do & you just get the Vegas Vibe more. |

The strip as its called is the center of Las Vegas nightlife and Fremont Street is call Hotel Row. The big/Famous hotels are expensive really big but there are few companies such as Globus Gateway that have few package deals out there for Vegas hungry tourists who want to stay big time. But on Fremont St is few cheap hotels/motels that are worth a look. I know you want to enjoy Las Vegas but stay off the strip at night because the police enforce a cur-view to prevent crime. |
