New York has lots of muesuems you can go to and if you want a good view of the city, you can go to either the Empire State Building observation deck (86th floor) or on the top of the Rock at Rockefeller Center. |

The cheapest way is by bus (assuming you are in North America) if not, shop bargain flights.
There are nice people everywhere. New York is much nicer than it's reputation, although patience for willfully clueless tourists can run out. People who doggedly refuse to read up before they go. That can be annoying.
Tip: when you are there, and out walking, keep your feet moving at a good clip, there is nothing that wears out our patience faster than getting stuck behing Hank or Hannah Hayseed, strolling along like they are the only pedestrian in creation URRRRGGGHHHH!!! |

Oh it was great and you should defently go to see for yourself... but a few things i was disappointed bout was lack of bars and night life and it takes ages to get everywhere, and don't go thinking your getting a relax...NO no no. its very tiring. People are nice, but its just like London. people are rushing around. I did find one lady rude as we asked the way to somewhere and when i said.. sorry what did she mean" she got a bit shirty with me. and a few things you need to know....
Toilets and loos ......they say rest room
Pay the bill........they say can i have the check please
tube ......... Subway.
And book a tour with the red or yellow coat men, i know its a bit touristy but u need them buses to get round and see everything as its so big.
Shopping wasn't as great as i expected but probably cause i didn't find the places to get bargains. and you think things are cheap until they put tax on top of things when you pay. i think you can get money back after but no one told us that till last day by that time it was to late.
I booked my hoilday with flight place. can't think what it was called. got a good deal and a very lovely hotel

It can be a fun place; it depends on how old you are. I like to go down to Greenwich Village - that's an interesting place.
People are nice when you talk to them, but it's a busy city and lots of people are absorbed in their own things.
As far as cheapest way of getting there, I can't say without knowing where you're coming FROM. |

there are great offers on flights at the moment, you should be able to get some for about £300 return including taxes. I have been several times and found the people great, really friendly and free with here advise, outside Grand Central station, a place worth a visit in it's own right, there is a tourist office maned by youngsters and they are great.........have a clam chowder in the oyster bar down stairs in the station just for the experience. A walk in central park is a must, none of the kitch buggy rides, you will see people walking dogs, kids, training on skates jogging or just strolling and then there is the zoo and sit and have a drink just watching the world go by. It is a city that keeps calling you back there is sooo much to see and do. Give it a go you will not be sorry |

NYC is great. I live here. Its expensive no matter how you slice it, although the pound/dollar exchange rate is good for you. Look for special fares with British airways or Aer lingus to JFK, then hop the air train to the A train and Manahattan. Or take a cab for
about 50 american. Once in Manahattan, the sky is the limit. Your only limited by time and what you like! Hotels are expensive, not unlike London, but you have the exchange rate in your favor. Get a unlimited metrocard (www.mta.info) and ride the subway everywhere. Its open all night. Most of all, have fun. Great pubs (even a few English types) The people are great. Just stay out of the way during the morning or PM rush. People are usually very helpful. Cops are everywhere, especially in midtown.

Also, don't limit yourself to Manahattan. Venture to Brooklyn, yankee stadium, the bronx zoo. Coney Island. Go to a nice Irish bar in woodside (Donovans has the best burger in NYC. Right off the 7 train)

I haven't been but my Mum went at Christmas. Aer Lingus are very cheap at the moment. Worth considering even if you are in the UK, although you would have to change planes in Dublin. |

its a great place to visit plenty to see and do lot's of lovely food {such variety } only ever met courteous people it will be my 6 th visit this summer can't get enough of the place hope you make it try a package deal {flight and hotel } that may be cheaper than getting a flight and booking your hotel seperate best of luck |

As many others have mentioned, most New Yorkers are not rude, but they are certainly busy, primarily because tourists tend to see them on the way to/from work, and so they are not in the same slow downed vacation mode as the tourists around them. I have lived in NY my entire life, and if you catch me on my way to work, I may look harried and even grumpy, like most people. But you will also find that New Yorkers are very proud of "knowing" NY, and there is a sense of bragging rights when you can point a tourist in the right direction, perhaps saying in an offhanded manner, "Yeah, you need to head West 2 block down Houston..." I think that you will find that overall New Yorkers are very friendly and will talk to you very openly if you approach them. Of course, you should not expect anyone to approach you first to see if you need help/directions. There's too much going on for anyone to notice the lone lost tourist staring at the subway map! If you need help, ask for it...you'll be pleasantly surprised! |

Was it like in NY? Just think of this way. It's like Oxford Street all over the city. It's crowded, filled with shops, taxis, cars, traffic, noise, lights, crazy people, crazy things, and it is the city that never sleeps.
The difference b/t Oxford Street and streets in NY is that the roads are much wider. More car lanes. Roads in America tend to be bigger than roads in Europe.
Hope I helped. I am able to compare it to Oxford Street cause I have been to London.
But there is more to America than NY, if you come try going to Boston, Las Vegas, California, Florida. These are also great American cities/states. |

Look for cheap flights on the Internet, it's too far to walk, cycle or swim, you can't drive as there is too much water in between us and New York, going by ship takes too long so flying is the best. |

Ive been a few times and totally loved it. From driving in by taxi, to wandering around, you constantly feel like your on a film set!
Cheap flights can be taken from Liverpool with flyglobespan.com - a budget flight company. But you can get there from about £250 in most air fare sales.
A lot of people say that the american people are annoying - what a load of rubbish - i have never met nicer people. You would expect that with the number of toursits in new york they would get sick - but every bar I went into, every shop and cafe, it was like i was the first foreigner to walk into the place, they were so helpful and talkative.
Make sure you plan your time there, just so you see as much as possible - and try to take in a baseball game if you go in season - what a good, and very very cheap time! |

I loved New York!! I personally did not come in contact with any rude people! I think they were too cold to care! LoL. No really I loved New York, I just went last friday and I am from South Carolina so I'm not used to the people from big cities, (hint my town only has two stop lights in the whole thing... yeah it's that small) but I loved all of the action and the rush I guess I'm just a city girl born in the country! |

It is great! Cheap too! I never had any problem and would go often if I had the time and money!! So much going on and such cool shops! Not sure about the cheapest travel as that changes all the time... and of course depends on where you are starting from.... friends of mine (3 women) are just back and they had a fantastic time, they rented an apartment which was cheaper than an hotel as there were 3 of them and it meant they could collapse and just have a take away if they were too weary after a day shopping ... just have a bath and get a pizza delivered!!!...etc...etc... have fun!! |

i have been twice. its fantastic! lots to do, sight see, shop, eat, drink, shows. the people are lovely, very welcoming! i flew with british airways from manchester to jfk on both occasions but you can fly in to newark which is closer to manhattan or you can do a stop in france for an hour which works out cheaper. check on money super market under the travel section it might help!! if you go do the grey line tour takes you to all the land marks. go t woodberry common a big shopping outlet but cut prices and shop til you drop!!! have fun!!! |

Hi I was there last summer and I enjoyed it but I think I built it up to be more than it was really - but maybe it was because i was only there for a week and I was kinda jet lagged i dnt knw. Shopping is great - Go to Century 21 - you'll find anything you'll ever need clothes wise in that store!! You'd really want to know what you're doing before you go though - like pick out the main attractions you want to see etc. cos it's a bit overwhelming! As regards means of travel - well myself and my friend got a bargain flight for 480euro (I'm from Ireland) on the net and that was return! Check the net for cheap flights. We flew with Continental. British Airways and Aer Lingus are always expensive.
Like I say New York is nice and it's great to be able to say you went there but I don't think I could imagine myself living there. I think a week is enough.
Another place where you should DEFINTELY go though is Chicago - GREAT CITY! |
