I'm a New Orleans native and it's okay. I'm in Houston now because of, do I really have to say? I miss home. I miss Winn-Dixie and Sav-A-Center. I miss getting beignets in the French Quarter and hanging out with my friends by Bayou St. John near my home(7th Ward) I can't wait until New Orleans is back and better than ever. Then I can finally say "cold drink" again instead of soda. Hehehe

I used to live in Slidell, and I used to avoid going to New Orleans whenever possible. Most parts of it are dirty and nasty and just plain old run down. The few nice places that are there are usually full of drunk tourist. Don't get me wrong, it could be a beautiful city if it was alot better kept. Hopefully after it is rebuilt it will stay nice.

We go there about every other weekend. We're from the Mississippi Gulf Coast, and it takes about an hour to get there. Some parts of the city I really like. The Riverwalk, The French Quarter, and around the University are some. But some places are really junky and, well, gross! Overall, I would rate the city a 6 out of 10. Also, the French Quarter always smells like trash! (no offense, but its true.)

Well, I was on one of the protection teams looking after some of the people trying to help the people of New Orleans just after Hurricane Katrina and I was there during Hurricane Rita - I have to say from what I saw of the people who we were trying to assist, that I was most definitely not impressed.

i love it. I've always had fun there. and I've always managed to get robbed. one year i fought from sun down to sun up in the french quarter. i did some serious damage that year. my face was cut up pretty bad but i definitely ruined some other tourist vacation. by the way, i did not start any of those fights. it was bunch of idiots that can't control themselves on liquor. and i learned to never take a girl with you to new Orleans. nothing but trouble. that's what most of that was, me defending her against hundreds of drunk, horny weirdos.

I'm Canadian, but travel to the states often. New Orleans is one of the friendliest and most beautiful places I have ever vistited.

It's beautiful, the people are nice, there is lots to do and to learn (about people, culture, American history).

I'm curious to know/see how it is now after Katrina. But even if some of the sights aren't the same, nothing can change how great the people are down there.

One place in the U.S. I definitely have plans to visit again.

Again, the one thing that stands out...people are friendly.

I have been there several times,, before Katrina, and I just love it. The food is great, the hotle conncected to the River Walk Mall is beautiful. The French Market is so fun,, and Fiorella's fried chicken is out of this world.

I actually had a hotel booked, when the storm hit.

I have to admit,, that it sorta gets scary at times..
We were sitting on the board walk loooking at the river boat, and a group of kids. (gang? ) came walking by,, and hanging around.
we had to leave and waited at the Cafe Du Mode till they left.

I hate that it has so much crime, and I couldn't believe that all of those people were living in the woods, and in those houses that were jammed pack together.

I heard they weren't going to build the poor ones back? I hope they are now settled.
We had a student from New Orleans graduate from our school,,, he was a nice kid, and the students seem to really like him... I know it was a tough night for him being away from his friends.
Maybe the mayor will do something and make it a better place to live for those who had to deal w/ the issues of crime, and poverty.
I know the people of New Orleans dont' want to live in Texas,, just like we wouldn't want to live there.
I know I went to Toys R Us and got a lot of food and tons of baby items for the children that were brought here.

I Love New Orleans. but since the hurricane I have not been able to go back home.

I was there when I was a teenager in the 80's. People were so nice to us. I guess we Canadians do have an accent. I loved Bourbon street (i even got robbed there) but that did not deter my love for your beautiful city. I am so sorry for all the heartache that you folks have had to endure there recently... From a Canadian Rocker chicks point of view...one of the best states in the U.S.
