I went last summer, and believe me, it is AMAZING. It's even more amazing-looking than in the movies. We went out walking around midnight when everything was lit up, and I was AMAZED. It was one of the most wonderful expierences of my life. I would move there if I could. If you can, you should really try to go one day. It's most def. something everyone who loves the city (or not) should do. |

Bloomberg just sold the naming rights to Times Square. Disney won the bid. The new name is now Disney World NYC. Too darn clean too many tourists. I miss my old grimy Times Square/ |

Yes thirty years ago ,I asked a cop where I could find it and he said "you're standing in it" he was right it looked like I was standing in it or standing in something, it was disgusting. But I hear it has truly changed and is now Quite lovely. |

I have and it looks so much cooler than it does in movies!! The buildings make it into sort of a giant box. They have the coolest buildings and there's so many different people there. There's so much culture, which I love. I've never been there on New Year's Eve, just briefly once when I went to see a show on Broadway. I ate at Planet Hollywood... which is much less impressive. the movie props were cool and worth seeing, but the food was like I walked into my kitchen and made something myself in ten minutes.
Anyway, that's my little "Time Square is so awesome" rant.
Oh, and I see a lot of people saying they live in NY and it's nothing great... my older sister lived in NY and said the same thing before I went there. She made me not look forward to it because I was expecting it to be nothing basically.
I'm guessing if you live there, you're used to it. If you've never been there though, it's so worth seeing. It's really cool. |

I used to cut school and go into City...67, 68...
turned 18 in 1969....registered for draft....got draft card....
now I am legal to drink in NYC
been there many times when area was porn movie houses(with grim looking doorman wearing greatcoat and epaulets )...kung fu movies...peep shows....a number of strip clubs...live sex shows ...arcades....
nice and seedy...
prostitutes out the wazoo on 8th Ave
not a place for the wife and kiddies...
I heard that Times Square looks like what Times Square would look like if Disney made a themepark named Times Square......
almost have to hire actors to play the occasional dangerous bagperson
that sounds like an exaggeration |

yea i live in manhattan!
and when you get there, if you ever will, you'll realize its just hype and no hit. Its pretty for five seconds, but all the tourists are annoying, and if you aren't seeing a musical, dont bother going down there.
Movies make everything look better.
but i promise you the new yorker stereotype for being rude is not true...in most cases. |

I have to say, I live an hour north of the city, and I LOVE the city, and I've been to Times Square many times over the years and I NEVER get tired of it. There's always something new and interesting popping up to see, there's always something being added.
Maybe it's just me, but I love the city, therefore, I love Times Square, it never gets old to me. I used to go there monthly and it didn't get old to me, it's just the wonder of the city! |

Movies tend not to Times Square any justice. It's even more interesting in person with a good deal more to see and do in such a small area.

Yes - too many unavoidable times. I have yet to figure out how it does look awesome in films - is shabby looking and crowded. Awesome for me, in NYC, was: 1) working on the 55th floor of the Empire State Bldg. with an office window looking down on Fifth Avenue; 2) being in Grand Central Station at 7:30pm, on a weekday, after all the commuters have departed; 3) watching the ice skaters at Rockefeller Center; 4) having cocktails at the St. Regis; and, 5) having a picnic in Central Park where one views the skyline of Fifth Avenue. |
