I lived in central Texas (San Angelo) for 2 years.
It is hot, dry windy, and flat.)
The Mesquite trees (pollen) and Cedar trees(pollen) stifle you. Heat gets unbearable at times. Hardly ever see rain, When it does rain, its hailstorms. Cost of living and housing is great. A $ 300,000.00 home in North Carolina would only cost about $ 180,000.00 there.
Ethnicity is primarily Tex-Mex., with a big emphasis on Mex. The rest is Caucasian; hardly any Afro-Americans at all.
Everybody owns one or more horses, and the entire atmosphere is definitely "western." |

Lived there for a while as a child, and have visited a few times. Great place to visit. Hot, sunny, blue bonnets, big sky, great people. San Antonio is a really great place to visit. So is Padre Island and Mustang Island. |

Ooooh, dahling, I live in West TX. It's dreadful.....really horrid. Trying to leave the mother state and what have you. But I would be happy to suggest some nice places in the state... |

Just like the movie PeeWee's Big Adventure where he says,
"The stars at night are big and bright"
and everyone around turns around, claps and yells,
"Deep in the heart of Texas".
It is just like that. |

I live there... It's the same as everywhere else, except the men think they are God's gift. That's why I imported one from Louisiana - from the South (like me). :)
EDIT: The roads aren't wider here, most of the women are NOT homely (lots of pretty women in TX), and people aren't necessarily friendlier. |

No, I've never visited. When I was younger, I heard of horror stories from Texas that put me off it and I swore I would never go there.
Now I'm older and less ignorant, Texas is a place I'd love to visit someday. I would imagine it would be pretty big, with nice weather and the people would be friendly. MOST Americans are.
There you have me answers! |

I went to my son's wedding there in 2004 in was in June I
live in Ohio and when we got to Texas it was hot and the land was really flat. We were right outside of Dallas so I only saw
the part of Texas you see when you drive from Ohio to Dallas.
People there seem to have a lot nicer cars than they do in
my area. They have a lot of good places to eat and the people are nice. But it was really hot and I am a cold weather
person. There were some really great places to eat in Arkansas one I remember in particular was called Sizzlin
Steak House they really had good food and great service. |

I've been to Houston many times. One weird thing about Houston is that the roads are deserted from 9AM through about 4PM. Okay - not completely, but mostly. The people all go underground, apparently. Other than that, the people were pretty much the same as everywhere else.
All I've ever seen of Dallas has been from the airport there, but it always seems to be gloomy out when I'm there, so I can't say much about it.
Nice airport though. |

More land, wider roads, warmer climate than in the north. People there are friendlier, too! |

Make sure you are ready for some redneck/cowboy attitudes !
I passed through a few years back as was treated like a outsider, i have never visited a place as unwelcoming as there.
That's just my experience thou and I'm sure there is good there somewhere.
Get ready to see firearms, kinda freaky that you can carry a gun/rifle at your own will. |

Yes, I've been in San Antonio. It was the worst climate experience of my life! It's the Devil's Anvil...too, too hot and terrible humidity. The old city was mildly interesting but nothing else that I can think of except for the HEAT! |

Yes, it's a long and boring drive, especially if you're only driving through on on your way elsewhere. Next time, we'll go by plan. |

No. Don't want to go.
I'm northern, and can't bare to listen to those accents. I die if it's 85, I totally wouldn't even be able to handle past 100. |

Drawling accents, homely women, guns, flags and horses. And big gorgeous basketball / baseball players....
I'm English. |

If you say so...

I nearly did. Thought I would have gone to Dallas but was not meant to be. I thought it would have been big. Lots of open spaces and women with big hair. lol. George Bush has a ranch there. Would have liked to drive by and waved to him. That's me being nice. |
