Help me like Dallas, TX.....?

Okay, please try to convince me that Dallas is a great city. Personally, I hate it...but I keep trying to give it another chance and another chance etc.... I am used to cities like Chicago and NYC...to me, Dallas is ugly and boring....not to mention way too hot for a good chunk of the year. I actually have more appreciation for cities much smaller than Dallas than Dallas itself. Please try and convince me that Dallas has something to offer more than shopping and club-hopping. Thank you in advance!
Additional Details
Why do you live here if you hate it so much? Because my dh has a decent job here and I am waiting to get my degree.--Haven't you ever heard of cirumstances?
I think you are way too pessimistic? Really, If I was I wouldn't be wanting to like it--I would just be happy hating it. And for your info. most ppl I know here hate it but just stay here for a few years to save money $$$ because rent is cheap. I don't care what anybody says, other cities do have their bad parts no place is perfect but I LOVE NYC & CHICAGO---I EVEN LOVE FORT WORTH more than Dallas but have NO desire to live there. I also currently live outside the city but still find the area boring and ugly. The desert is more beautiful :) !!! The only beuatiful place I have really seen here was the Botanical Gardens in FT Worth.
I will extend the question but am thankful for the answers thus far! :D

I've lived in Dallas my whole life and I can't find any place else I like it better than my home. It really depends what area of Dallas you live in. I live in North Dallas and it's great! Look in the Addison area-so much to do and see!
It does stay hot for most of the year but we have lots of waterparks like-Hurrican Harbor, NRH2O. Hawaiian Falls, and a few more that stay open till September.

I'm from NYC and planning a move to Dallas for the Fall. I'm actually relocating to Dallas because it is cheaper to rent an apartment or own a home than NYC

I don't plan on giving up my beloved NYC entirely. I was born and raised here and it will always be a part of my heart. My mom will still have a home up in NYC and I will work in the big apple during the summers because my field is education. I can work up here during the summers and earn enough money to pre-pay a 1 bdrm apartment in Dallas (suburbs) a year in advance.

I will live in Dallas from September to May. I will also have the great weather, tons of restaurants (I heard that Dallas has more restaurants per capita than NYC does), space, laidback lifestyle, cities like Houston and Austin within hours drive away. (Already I have something to do on the weekend -- Yay!) I think it is a good bargain as far as huge U.S. cities are concerned.

Ok, well i live near Dallas. And personaly i dont like it much either. Got in a wreck the other day over there. And south Dallas is Oakcliff. (the ghetto). But yea. Theres not much to say about Dallas. If you like city than I guess stay. But if you like a quiet life move someweres around there. Like Lewisville or Carrolloton. Both nice places.

Man of Gold
The only really good city in Texas is Austin but even Dallas does suck compared to other cities, try living in Houston, which I think is even worse than Dallas.

Dallas is more urban, has better transportation and the downtown looks nicer than Houston's downtown.

But yeah, getting used to NYC and Chicago will make any city in Texas suck.

I think Dallas is a great place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live inside Dallas city limits. There are many cultural things you could get involved in, but probably not as much as NYC. What is it that you really like to do? I don't care for club-hopping and once a year is all I would want of 6 Flags at Arlington.

kait
Dallas has so much to offer, that's pretty much the only reason why it's popular. and it's cheap. the weather sucks, but if you live here..after a few years you get used to it.

Mr.G's wife
I live just outside Dallas and I love it here, mainly the people keep me in this very hot state, I have traveled alot but have not found another place where everyone is so friendly and willing to help.

I know what your saying i live in west Texas getting ready to move there NOT looking forward to it:(..but i agree with Jonathan move to a smaller city not actually Dallas..maybe me and you can hook up and show em how your suppose to do it...lol...it is boring..and is it me or do they seem like a ton of clones walking around no personality??

Amber
Dallas is scary..
Boring..
And scary.

My grandparents used to live there before they died.

I personally LOVE NYC. No where else in the world would be like NYC and I've been all over the world. But if you want MONEY and having things and little LUXUARY, then Dallas is the place to be. But then, you need to get out and take lots of trips, so you don't feel bad living in Dallas. I travel a lot and I am planning to buy a nice house here. NYC is super cool, but you can never buy a house and if you do it won't be anything nice. Unless you are a millioner! Living in Dallas over 20 years will make you rich, but in NYC or Chicago won't. Thats how I see it.

Precious
Well i live out side of Dallas, like near DFW, and yha Dallas stinks, but there's alot of great things to. And Chicago and New York arent great all the time. The Texas State Fair is fun, and the Galleria, Six Flags, Stonebeire, Grapevine Mills, plenty of art muesuems. Just choose something you like and google it for Dallas. You'll probably come up with something.

if not you could always move....=[
But also the fact that you live in texas is special, because if anyone asks you where your from you dont say dallas, but texas.... Yee-wah!

Cherry
I adore Chicago it is so charming and clean, pretty and smells lovely. I would move there if it weren't for the cold weather.
Dallas is boring - you can go to shows, theater, plays, and you can play sports, and you can go to aquarium, zoo and a cowboy game or baseball but if you don't like it then don't bother stay in Chicago that would be my choice.
I like Plano because it is clean but other than drinking, working out and dining out/shopping, movies I would say not much. Golf maybe

IF you like a free thinking style, liberal and slightly different then you might lik ethe Lakewood area of Dallas.

biblicalfive
You can buy a nice house for cheap in DFW! I know lots of people selling their California/New York area etc houses and taking their equity and buying a mansion here for cash... hard to beat that...

i have traveled to more than half of the us and have not found a better place than dallas
