Yes, we went there when we were visiting Vegas. The tour was pretty cool, but we had about as much fun while we were waiting in line for the tour. We counted license plates from 49 out of 50 states, don't remember now which was missing but it was NOT AK or HI. Also, the line between Mountain time and Pacific time is on the bridge. All in all, it was worth taking a few hours away from the casinos.

Definitely go and take the most extensive tour they offer. It's amazing. I took my parents there and we were thoroughly impressed. Here is the day trip you should do from Vegas if you're going to Hoover Dam:

Head towards Hoover Dam at around 9 AM. Stop for breakfast at "Gold Rush", a tiny casino that's on the way, it's right off Boulder Highway which is the road you take from Vegas to Hoover Dam. There, you can get a breakfast of steak and eggs or a Cheeseburger w/ fries for $1.99.

From there, go to Hoover Dam, arrive there around 11 AM. Take the most extensive tour they offer, take pictures and walk around the top of the dam. At about 2 PM, drive over to the Lake Mead Recreational Area visitor's center.

Get a map, pay the admission, and drive into the Lake Mead Recreational area. Ask at the visitor center how to get to Valley of Fire. Drive up to Valley of Fire, but be sure to take time along the way to visit one of the marinas on Lake Mead, just to see the Lake up close. It's a beautiful desert area and beautiful scenery, and a beautiful lake.

As you get close to Valley of Fire, there will be a small spring, like an oasis in the desert. Park there and walk over by the spring and check it out, it's really beautiful.

Head over to Valley of Fire, it should be close to 4:30 or 5:00 by now. Stay in Valley of Fire during the sunset, it is all red rock and with the sunset it really looks like it's all on fire!!! One of the most beautiful things you'll ever see!!!

When it's dark, drive straight through Valley of Fire and keep going, you will get to Interstate 15. Take I-15 south and you'll be back in Vegas within about 1/2 an hour. This will then give you the whole night in Vegas to have fun!!!

Have a GREAT Trip, I'm sure you'll love it as much as I did!!!

Go on the dam tour and take lots of dam pictures.

yes it is quite nice when you consider just how massive an engineering feat it was for its day.

Yes it is, We drove from Vegas to north rim of the Grand Canyon and you have to go over the dam. We went on Memorial day so we just stopped and took pictures there were tons of people there. It was the best thing we did going to both places, they were VERY worth it.

do not go on the tour! its completely a waste of money (well i felt it was, i'm sure some people don't feel that way) You go down a long elevator, watch a movie about the construction of the dam, and look at the turbines. that's all. they don't take you outside anymore to look at it from the bottom. i was dissapointed. but i think its worth it just to go and look. parking is $5 cash on the nevada side, small free parking lot on the arizona side. if you're coming from nevada, prepare for a bit of traffic. there's construction currently going on. also, i think there was a tower that fell near the dam recently, double check that online before you go. (it was due to high winds) one more thing: there is no arizona/nevada line on the road over the dam, like in that movie with mathew perry.

I drove over it back in June. They are building a bridge across the gorge right in front of the dam. Very awesome site!! It appeared to be open for visitors as usual but I don't know about going inside(like on Vegas Vacation the movie).

Yes, I think it is very worth seeing at least once.

I have seen it on TV it looks like it would be cool to see. I believe the state line between Arizona and Nevada is located out on the damn itself.

It is not to be missed !

It is SURPRISINGLY interesting. Definitely go. We went to Vegas on our honeymoon, and my wife wanted to go. I didn't care anything about going, but I went, and it really is neat. Worth the trip, especially since you'll already be in Vegas.

it's a must see. either drive over it and stop or take one of the many tours out of vegas. most vacation packages will give you the option of purchasing a hoover dam tour, and it's equally impressive day or night. Another option I recommend is seeing it by boat from either side. You can rent a boat from several different marinas on either lake and see it that way.

Yes, If you are driving, you wont miss it if you are coming from the south. They are still working on it. Take your camera on a tripod or monopod. It's Awsome at night.

Hoover Dam powers all of Las Vegas.

UK_2_USA
Absolutely well worth a visit. However, the last I heard, you could not tour inside the dam itself anymore for security reasons. If you are wanting to see the internals, I would check before you go.

I don't even know what it is.
