I would have to agree with "matthew" on his three choices, for "value". But, the Orleans would probably be the best choice, for your family. They have a lot for the kids to do, bowling, swimming, arcade, a kids tyme for the younger one, 18 screen movie theater. The Orleans has a very nice variety of food choices, from $1 hot dogs, to Terrible Mike's burgers, Subway, the cafe and buffet are two fo the best in all of LV.
You can get adjoining rooms at the Orleans, and you can get rooms with an awesome view of the strip lights, if that's what you want. The rooms on floors 15-19, room numbers 02-44(even number rooms)>a room such as 1636 has an incredible view of the strip.
The Orleans, Gold Coast and Barbary Coast will all price match the best online room rate you can find for their hotel.
"Is there any activities for the kids to do?" Ours is 15 now and she has been going to LV since she was 3, she had a ball then and she still loves to go, there are a million things for kids to do in LV. >Pools, rides, shopping centers, the free spectacles. King Arthur's Tournament at Excalibur is a fun family night out.
this is my fav site to check LV room rates

Don't get me wrong the Venetian is a 5 star hotel, but it also has 5 star prices. It's not a great "value", it is a great hotel.
I would check the travel sites for room rates and compare the hotels, prices/amenities to see which fills the bill for your family. |

If you want the best hotel in Las Vegas for the price (to quote YOU)... i think you're talking about overall VALUE, i'd choose either:
1) GOLD COAST
2) BARBARY COAST
3) ORLEANS
The Orleans and GC are both off strip (but offer free shuttles to the BARBARY). They are solid hotels, clean, and have very attractive prices. If you can do without a 'perfect view' of the city lights from your hotel room - these may suit you.
Each offers bowling, a movie theater, a kids-zone (video games & supervised programs, etc). Plenty of restaurants (fair priced) and a solid buffet. The pools are pretty good.
The BARBARY COAST... is simply the best location of em all! Dead center strip. It's a smaller hotel so check-in will be a breeze. It may not be kid-friendly for activities, but it's location can get you 'anywhere' quickly via walking or a cab. The prices are remarkable for a mid-strip property. Jump on it (as harrah's recently bought it ... and those boys know how to either ruin, or implode nice hotels... jerks!... sigh).
If you're comparing T.I. & the V head to head - you picked 2 great hotels. The clientele @ the T.I. might be a bit more forgiving for 'staring at kids walking thru the property/casino'. It's pretty rare that you'll see kids @ the Venetian. But, who knows. T.I. has "sirens" a battleship/pirate battle-thing out front (free), dont need to be a hotel guest to see it. It used to have a lot more class to it & was more family oriented --------- now, T.I. has made it a bit sleazy with the female perfomers dressed a bit 'scantily' if ya follow me.
Things to do (for kids):
--circus circus .. free circus acts, midway, carnival games, and now an indoor theme park, etc
--sahara .. a GREAT coaster!! (in the Nascar section of the hotel)
--Stratosphere Tower .. observation deck & some pretty intense thrill rides up there .. mind you it's 1100 feet up, so i dont know how scared your little ones would get
--pools .. nearly every hotel
--Red Rock Canyon, this is a real bargain... $5/car... and it has some amazing rock formations
--Hoover Dam, take the hard hat tour (like the Griswalds)
((( the last 2 things i mentioned would be perfect if you want to rent a car for the day & you can hit some of the OFF STRIP resorts also ))))
--bellagio conservatory.. free.. amazing
--bellagio fountains.. free.. also very nice
--FREMONT STREET EXPERIENCE.. free.. downtown under the canopy (they do a 'show' that's pretty cool)
As a final note... i have a harsh opinion for the CIRCUS CIRCUS property. I'm an adult.. so forgive me... but the place is old, run down, and just LACED with kids, strollers, unsupervised kids running about, the rooms are showing wear around the edges!!! Sooo, if you want to hit the place for some 'kid fun' i'd do that -- as for staying there, i wouldnt even if you could get a room for $2. Even the buffet is TERRIBLE. |

Treasure Island is definitely my favorite out of all. The people are "real" and you don't have to walk a mile to get to your room, the pool, the restaurants or casino. Circus Circus isn't the most glamorous but they have a lot for the kids. The pool isn't so great. My husband and I have stayed in most of the hotels there and by far we like Treasure Island, even over Mandalay Bay. Like I said the people are "real" there. |

There are lots of hotels that are "family - friendly " and have lots of activities for kids of that age. Check out websites for recommendations and costs. Many allow children to stay free with parents in a hotel room--depends on the package. Check with a couple of travel agencies, (such as AAA, etc) for package tours for families. Here is the informatioln from the website of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors' Authority:
Travelers with Children
Las Vegas may not be the first destination that comes to mind when thinking of a family-friendly vacation, but there are plenty of activities for children in the city.
Most importantly, look for accommodations with a pool. Many Vegas hotels feature huge video arcades and diversions like roller coasters and other rides. The choices for shows and events have also diversified, and it is easy enough to find entertainment suitable for families.
In addition, children under 12 can often stay free in their parents' rooms, and well-priced buffets are ideal for families. Many hotels provide programs for children and teenagers, while babysitters and childcare facilities are also sometimes available. Inquire with your hotel.
Visitors under the age of 21 are prohibited from loitering in casinos, and that the Strip has a curfew. (Hotel security officers keep a keen eye out for anyone underage near any slot machines or table games.) Children under 18 are not allowed to be out after 9 p.m. unless accompanied by an adult.
It may also be a good idea to rent a car for your stay. Distances on the Strip can be deceiving, and a lot of walking is required to see everything. |

Stay at the Mandalay Bay! There is an incredible pool and resturaunts there! You can entertain yourselves by seeing shows, visiting New york new york (it's a hotel) going to the pool, there is tons of stuff to do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

The Venetian is 1 of the top 3 hotels on the strip and not a place for kids. The TI is very friendly for the little ones. |

Well hotels are awfully costly, and I don't know if there will be any activites for kids. |

LoneStar

Main Street Station downtown is a fine hotel and cheap. The kids can go to movies at Neonoplis, and there is the Fremont Street light show at night.
Also, I would agree that the Orleans is a good value and has activities for kids. Also, the oyster bar there is great. |

TINKERTOY ..... the 1 & only

The Venitian is one of the highest priced hotels on the Strip but not necessarily kids friendly. You'll get a great room but you will have to go other places for things for the kids. BUT, that's not a bad point for the hotel because there are bunches of things for kids/teens.
First of all there are a bunch of hotels that have essentially water parks for guests. The Mandalay Bay has the biggest and best wave pool sand beach pool out there, plus it has a lazy river for tubing. You kid will stay busy all day with that. The Monte Carlo hotel also has a wave pools and lazy rivers. The MGM Hotel has a huge lazy river and a water fall in a huge pool area. The Flamingo has a great pool with a water fall and a water slide, not big but very refreshing and I enjoy it all the time. In addition, there is a place called "Game Works" which is next door to the MGM, across from NY, NY that has all of the video type games any kid could want. (look for the Coke bottle). Many hotels also have big arcade areas.
At the other end of the strip is the Circus Circus hotel and casino and it has a huge arcade full of games, circus acts every half hour, and if that's not enough, an indoor amusement park with roller coaster rides and stuff. At the Sahara hotel there is a roller coaster ride, and also one at NY, NY. There are three rides atop the Stratosphere tower. There are movie theaters right on the strip, near the MGM and in the Palms Hotel across from the RIO hotel on Flamingo Avenue. There is also a bowling alley in the Gold Coast Hotel on Flamingo Ave next to the RIO(also a good place for a lower priced buffet) and another bowling alley in the Orleans.
If you want to do some off the strip stuff try these:
RED ROCK CANYON: Its about 20 miles west of Las Vegas out Charleston Blvd (you can pick up that street at the north end of the Strip) It’s a scenic drive-through park. Go early, not in the heat of the day; there's no shade.
HOOVER DAM: Drive about 30 miles southeast of Vegas and go to Hoover Dam; the National Park Service offers tours there (@ $15.) and its interesting stuff. Go on past Hoover dam to Boulder City and then to Lake Meade for a swim and/or to visit the new casino there. Also, there are tour companies that will take you on a cruise of the river below Hoover Dam. Check the Vegas web sites.
VALLEY OF FIRE STATE PARK: Drive about 35 miles north of Vegas on I-15 and go to Valley of Fire State Park, another scenic park area.
ZION NATION PARK: It’s a long drive (about 2-3 hours), but you can drive North on I-15 to Zion National Park and back in one day.
DEATH VALLEY: If you like to visit National Parks, drive about an hour and a half south of Vegas on I-15 and take RT-127 to Death Valley National Park (total drive may be 3 hrs each way).
GRAND CANYON: The drive to the Grand Canyon is 5 long hard hours on mostly two lane roads with trucks and campers (only a short way on I-40). You can drive there and back in one day if you leave early morning, like 6:00-7:00 AM. That will put you there about noon and you will have 4 or 5 hrs before starting back and getting back to Vegas about 11:00PM. I recommend staying overnight at the Canyon (there are plenty of motels near there, like Best Western, Ramada, Quality inns) and drive back the next day.
Now be sure to see all of the free stuff too:
1. Number one on my list is to watch the fountains displays in front of the Bellagio hotel. It usually runs every 15 minutes in summers starting at 3:00 PM; runs continuously until about midnight. Each show is different (there are more than 20 different tunes choreographed) so stay and watch at least 2 or 3. ALSO, go inside the Bellagio hotel to its lobby and view the beautiful glass sculptured ceiling AND the seasonal floral arrangements in the Atrium.
2. The “Sirens of TI” show (spectacular) in from of the Treasure Island Hotel; it runs every 90 minutes starting at about 4:30 PM. Simply stand on the sidewalk in front of the TI Hotel.
3. The volcano erupt in from of the Mirage Hotel; starting at dark until midnight. Again, just stand on the sidewalk in front of the hotel.
4. Go down to Fremont Street and see the light shows. There are usually 3 or 4 different shows, starting after dark (about 8:30PM) and lasting about 5 or 10 minutes each.
5. Go to the RIO hotel to see the Masquerade in the Sky show. It is like Mardi Gras parade, only suspended from the ceiling over the gambling floor. It runs every 60 minutes starting about 3:00 PM; the last show starts at 9:30 PM..
6. Go to the MGM Grand hotel to see the Lion habitat. This is better then the tiger habitat at the Mirage Hotel because there are usually trainers in with lions to keep them active.
7. Go to the Mirage hotel to see the white tigers that Siegfried and Roy show used. This is kinda passe because the tigers rarely do anything but sit and stare.
8. Go in Caesars Palace and walk through the Forum shops to the first fountain (its spectacular) then take the first fork to the left to go see the aquarium. Then continue on through the shops to the second fountain and wait for the show to start.
9. Go into the Flamingo hotel to see their animal habitat with flamingos and penguins.
10 The Excalibur hotel also has a free show starting at 10:00 AM until 10:00 PM.
If you are a Star Trek Fan, go to the Hilton (off the strip) for "Star Trek The Experience"; it cost about $25-30.
So as you can see your hotel is important for comfort, but not necessarily to have activities for you and the teens. |

Of the two hotels:
TI is the friendliest towards children.
Question is Why are you bringing children to an adult playground ? |

I recently stayed at the brand new Platinum Hotel. The rooms were spectacular. The room was huge, over 900 square feet and had brand new furniture, a plasma television, a full kitchen with a refrigerator, microwave, and stove. I really think this is the nicest hotel room, I've ever stayed at in Vegas and I've stayed at a lot of hotels on the strip including Bellagio, MGM, and Mandalay Bay. The price was also a lot better than most of the hotels on the strip. I would definitely stay there again on my next trip to Vegas. |

When traveling with kids I like to consider a few things, such as: availability of reasonably priced food, pool area, game rooms, etc
If you are going before May, not all of the pools are open. Manadalay Bay, MGM & Flamingo have multiple pools, but do not open them all until sometime in May.
Many hotels have food courts, or some sort of fast food which is good for lunch or in between meals.
We stayed at the Monte Carlo and TI with our kids. I know we all enjoyed TI better. We liked the size, not to long of a hike to the pool, restaurant choices, adjoining rooms, etc.
We've been twice with our teenage daughters. We enjoyed the Wax Museum @Venetian, rides at the top of the Stratosphere, Mac King Comedy@Harrahs, Hoover Dam, NYNY rollercoaster and many more things. Most attractions have coupons in the books you can pick up or they pass them out everywhere. Also, go to all the free attractions, that can keep you busy for days! |
