I think a bat or a crow bar would be better. Knives are for very up close fights you do not want to be that close to an attacker. You need pepper spray and a bat both are legal to carry. Make sure you have TRiple A car coverage too.
For camping I would by a Leatherman all purpose tool or Swiss Army knife. |

Well if you want to protect yourself with a knife then I would suggest pocket knives or swiss army knives. Pocket knives and swiss army knives are legal to carry on the street and sharp lethal enough to protect yourself. I would also suggest pepper spray with that too. Pepper spray hurts like a b*tch, I should know I tested it, so you might not even need to need a knife. |

6 inch folded knife. Actually you should buy a survival knife. Don't buy too small of a knife it could break due to the bone during penetration or malfunction and cut you instead, so get a good quality one.

You can legally carry a knife. I would suggest a taser, though. As far as a camping knife, get a 3-6in fold out pocket knife and keep it with you at all times. I have a 3in that I carry with me at all times, including work. Also, don't rule out mace, that stuff works really good. I have been sprayed with it.(by accident, some dumb guy was trying to spray his ex-girl at a club, she ducked and he got me right in the face.) Believe me it works!!!!! |

each state has a maximum blade length for a knife, so if you are under it, you can carry that anywhere you want. If you want one longer, you will have to either have it in the trunk or a locked glove compartment. |

Anything over 7" is considered a concealed weapon. So you're good with anything under 7" |

Well its legal to have a knife.
You don't want a really long one, maybe 8 inches?
Maybe put it on the floor by your seat easily in reach. |

Many people have mentioned concealed weapon laws. If you do not conceal it you won't be violating the law. You can wear the knife in a scabbard on your belt, and you can certainly keep it in your tent at night. Concealed weapons laws are about what you might carry on your person hidden from view they do not prohibit what you can have in your house. Whatever you have while sleeping in the tent would not be considered a concealed weapon. Have a great trip! |

No one is going to know unless you have to use it. I drove cross-country by myself and carried a knife; I had it in my purse. If you're worried about legal size, I think you would be okay with a 3 inch blade anywhere. Pocket or purse. Good luck. Don't be scared, just keep to yourself and put the "don't mess with me" look on your face. |

Each state is going to have different rules/laws on what would constitute an illegal concealed weapon when it comes to a knife. Most cases I believe 6 inches or less is ok, but it cannot be a switch blade. |

Beter check state laws because the laws differ. It may be illegal to carry a concealed weapon. Post your question up on one of the law bullentin boards. Consider pepper spray as well. |

The blade has to be shorter than your four fingers put together. So try putting the blade not on your palm, but on top of your four fingers. It should be a knife you can safely close, and safely pull the blade out. A simple pocket knife would do. |

Knives can be a felony for carrying, check it out. Oddly carrying a gun is often only a misdemeanor. |

Well don't get a switch blade or a butterfly knife because those are illegal in some states. I would carry a matchete or a katana....your pick. |

Pepper spray has greater range and is legal in most states.
And it won't get you locked up if you use it for self defense! |

You will FIRST need to check with EVERY locality you will be in BEFORE carrying any knife. Each locality has different laws regarding the size of knife and type of knife you can legally carry on your person and in a vehicle. Some states have laws regarding crossing state lines with a knife so check it all out BEFORE EVER buying a knife. No sense in buying one if you can't carry it. Make sure you have no criminal record that prohits the use of a knife...like being on probation. A visible knife in New York City IS ILLEGAL. Go to this website. It is a link for you to check out the laws from place to place. Here is the website http://www.ebladestore.com/knife-laws-50-states.shtml PLEASE CHECK IT OUT FIRST...A knife CAN BE considered a concealed weapon in some locations. |

Since I'm guessing that you are talking about a knife to protect you from people and not animals while camping, i suggest not bringing it and instead bringing pepper spray. A knife could easily be turned against you in a fight and end up injuring you instead of your attacker(s).
Good luck! |

This is a good and practical knife. It's slightly larger than the limit in some states, but if you have camping gear with you and you're not holding up liquor stores it shouldn't be a problem. |

i'm not sure but i believe as long as it isn't over a certain number of inches. |
