Always bring a coat....The evenings get cool....It's the city by the Bay and it gets chilly.....No matter what it's like during the day...It also matters what you are going to do...Lots of night life in San Francisco.....Jeans would work with different tops casual and dressy...Bring confortable shoes...If you do get dressed up and wear heels or boots bring some walking (flats)shoes in a bag...Lots of hills.... |

Most [people in SF get dressed with their underwear on first. Not always, just usually.
This weekend it looks like it will be mostly sunny with highs in the 70's and lows in the 50's. Shorts would be fine during the day but depending on your preference, pants may be better in the evening. Always bring a sweater or light jacket. If the fog rolls in the temps can fell like they drop 20ΒΊ in minutes.
How dressy or casual you dress depends upon where you are going.
Have fun! |

Jeans will work, but lots of people get dressy as well. It just depends on what you plan on doing. |

Dress however you want. I certainly wouldn't say San Francisco isn't fashion conscious - people here care very much about what they wear. But there are more fashion *bubbles*, and people wear very different things, and everyone's used to it (but New York's the same way... though San Francisco a little moreso). It's very common to see a hipster in full thrift chic, an old Asian woman in a jogging suit, a business person in Nordstrom's finest, a gay man in a muscle shirt, a tourist in pastel shorts, a teenager in baggy jeans and a hoodie, and maybe even a drag queen walking down the same street.
Certain neighborhoods have distinct looks to the point that looking "hip" in one neighborhood will make you look like a sore thumb just a few blocks away. But most people don't really care. Most neighborhoods are fairly mixed. So best to just wear whatever you want. However, if you'd really like to be specific, Union Square is fairly divided between tacky tourists and business people/"professionals".
In terms of weather... it's supposed to be in the 70s this weekend and level off into the 60s for all of next week, which is typical San Francisco weather (ie: the weather a good 8 or 9 months out of the year). So it's inbetween... you can wear shorts if you want (just be wary of the wind), or jeans. Either would be fine. |

At night time, people usually get more dressed up no matter how cold it is. If you're indoors you can wear whatever of course, but if you'll be outside, sweaters are recommended. As for styles and fashions, one of the greatest things about the city is the variety of influences and styles. Out in everyday public people wear just about everything.... If you're going to a certain place though, where a certain "type" of people (hate to sound cliche) are at, you may not blend in so well, depending on your outfit. But don't worry, most everyone is really accepting. |

the glory of san francisco... is that you can wear whatever you want! but for the most part - it's definitely not as flashy as los angeles, but not as conservative as east coast either. i guess it's just somehwere in between! |

It might be too cold or windy for shorts. I guess shorts are fine in LA-SoCal but here in NorCal especially in the Bay Area-San Francisco, temperature changes rapidly. You're better off staying safe with jeans and a cute top. Don't forget to bring a cardigan or a lightweight coat and a scarf. They said that it might be warm this weekend though. If you're staying in the Union Square Area, wear cute comfortable shoes like flats or small heels if you plan to do a lot of wallking and shopping. Have fun and enjoy your stay! |

The weather changes
Today it is sunny and warm but tomorrow it may be chilluy and might rain.
Even if it is warm - the temperature drops quite quickly, every day, around 3pm - 4pm which is why many people carry an extra layer of clothing if they are out and about between mid morning and 4pm |

PS
it was VERY sunny while I was there also...just letting you know that it doesn't mean it's warm when it's sunny!

The City is full of tourists. People dress as they want, and depending on where you go and do. There's also no such thing as "NoCal." |
