A New York minute is a very brief moment, significantly shorter than a real minute. The term refers to the common perception that New York City is very busy; much is happening at all hours of the day, people are often in a hurry and can be impatient.

gormenghast10014
a nano-second

A "New York Minute" means faster than a normal 60 second minute. It simply implies that you want something fast.

god knows and sees else Yahoo
a new york second is defined as the time between the lite turning green and the cab behind you blowing its horn

so you can imagine 60 seconds in nyc

A real short orgasm...

It is:
the time it takes between the time the traffic light turns green, and the taxidriver behind you honks his horn for you to get going.

,.

Bad Kitty!
Faster than you would believe is possible.

Well there is a news program on NY1 cable channel and they use that phrase to do a quick recap of all its news.

The term itself means a lot can happen, and it can and will.

Technically a New York Minute is still 60 seconds.

Mandogz
60 seconds is what New Yorkers call a New York minute..

mac77
A blink of an eye.

I have never liked that phrase, never heard it until I ventured outside of NY. Same as anywhere else, 60 min.

Literally, a minute is no different in New York than it is anywhere else. A "Baker's" Dozen is 13 as opposed to 12, making it a different kind of dozen, but a New York Minute is NOT a different kind of minute.

Figuratively, a "New York Minute" is a very short time. Johnny Carson once said that, and this may not be a 100% word-for-word quote, but..."it's the interval between a Manhattan traffic light turning green and the guy behind you honking his horn."

Many New York Minutes have passed while you were reading this :-)

?
believe it or not ............90 seconds
