We stay at Port Orleans French Quarter when we visit Disney, which is a bit more pricey than a Value resort. I personally love it there, though.
Here's some basic info for a first-timer:
Let's start with getting to the actual park. If you're flying to Orlando and staying on-site at Disney, you can use Disney's Magical Express to get from the airport to your Disney resort.
http://allearsnet.com/acc/mexpress.htm
The best rides are a matter of preference and vary person to person, really. Here are lists of all the rides in each park:
- Magic Kingdom: http://www.allearsnet.com/tp/mk/mk_attr....
- Epcot: http://www.allearsnet.com/tp/ep/ep_attr....
- Hollywood Studios: http://www.allearsnet.com/tp/mgm/m_attr....
- Animal Kingdom: http://www.allearsnet.com/tp/ak/ak_attr....
Also, here's a list of menus for every restaurant in all of the parks:
Be sure to take some good walking shoes that are already broken in. Get some good socks, too, so that your shoes won't rub your heels and give you blisters (bring Band Aids in case that happens). DEFINITELY apply sunscreen before heading out to the parks every day. You may also want to bring a refillable water bottle with you - you can fill it with ice and water before leaving your hotel and refill it at water fountains in the parks throughout the day. Water is expensive (as is everything) at Disney.
I read in one of your other questions that you're staying at All Star Music, so here are links to more info about it:

I hope this has helped! |

There are nice condos very close $900 US per week. http://www.disneycondo.com/orlandomap.html
Then there are the tickets to get in the park: ($264 for a 4 day "park hopper" per person) http://www.officialticketcenter.com/cheap-walt-disney-orlando-hopper-tickets.aspx
Then food........car rental, and of course airfare.
If you stay close, you can leave the park, go back to the condo or a restaurant to eat (much more inexpensive than eating at Disney) |

Under 5k inculding airfare from Chicago. One adult, two teenagers for 8 days. We did the basic dining package and it was wonderful. HIghly recommend it. When I got there I knew my meals where all paid for and it kept us in budget. It was plenty of food for us. We did the Park Hopper tickets. |

Our family of five can usually do the whole trip for around $3000. We have stayed both on and off Disney property. I only recommend staying off property if you will have a car, shuttles are a pain. On property, my favorite reasonably priced resort is Port Orleans Riverside. My favorite expensive resort is The Polynesian. My favorite value resort is Pop Century. We tend to go with the moderate because I like having more space.
My biggest advice for a first timer is to have a plan! Disney is not your typical Six Flags type theme park. It has so much more that you could end up missing out on a lot of stuff without a plan. I find that I am too busy to do all the planning on my own, so I hire Custom Mouse Plans. They do my itinerary, park touring plans, and dining reservations and they are so great! Everything they plan is customized for your family and designed to keep you away from the crowds and long lines. With their plans, we never waited more than 10 minutes for any ride, even the most popular rides. We did see waits of 90 minutes or more, but we had already been on those rides. The trip is expensive, as so many others have noted, so the $150 I spent on their plans made perfect sense. I am very happy to pay for that kind of service.
Have a great trip! |

It's been a few years but for 2 of us it was right around $1600 for a week, it included staying at the Carribean resort, unlimited access to the parks and transportation. We paid a small amount to go horseback riding at Camp Wilderness. You can go to the website and design your stay and it will tell you how much.http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/wdw/?bhcp=1 |

They are having a special late aug to early oct if you stay in disney for 3 nights and get passes you get to have the meal plan free. Which includes one counter service meal, one snack and one sit down meal a day. savings us almost 9hundred. |

Disney is or can be expensive you can cut down alot on the cost of things by staying in kissemee, also bring a cooler for the room and keep sand.meats cheese ,mustard, milk, sodas and juices, get a box of cereal, snacks, disposable cameras and even Disney souvenirs at walmart.when you get to the park invest the 8$-10$ Disney glasses full of soda refills that cup in almost all the parks for free |

Well let's see: My family and I paid roughly $6500.00 last year when we went in August. Here's the breakdown:
7 people (5 adults, two children over the age of 3)
Roundtrip Air-Fare
2 Bedroom Villa at Saratoga Springs Resort and Spa (DVC Resort)
6 Day Park Hopper Passes for Everyone
Disney Magic Your Way Package w/Dining Plan
We got to visit all four theme Parks and Downtown Disney was a 10 minute walk from our resort. We visited pretty much every attraction and ride that we were hoping to experience and didn't want to leave!
We are planning on going again in less than two weeks and for five of us to go (4 adults and one child) we are paying $4000.00 which is including:
Round Trip Airfare
6 nights at Port Orleans Riverside
7 day Park Hopper w/Water Parks & More
Magic your Way package w/Dining Plan
The best advice I can give you is do your RESEARCH! www.disneyworld.com and www.allears.net has wonderful information regarding rides. hours, new attractions, and a special section for people who have never been there (first-timers). Also, Disney World can be very overwhelming so try not to do so much in such a short amount of time. Pace yourself. You can spend a week and still not see 1/2 of what there is in the World. You are better to spend about a day exploring each park. Make a list of your "must sees" and plan your days around that list and where you would like to dine. You need to have at least a basic itinerary of what you want to do and see.
Here is a basic list of must-dos:
Magic Kingdom: Splash Mountain, Space Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain, Pirates of the Caribbean, Haunted Mansion, Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin; at least one parade and fireworks show
Epcot: Spaceship Earth, Test Track, Mission:Space, Soarin', Illuminations fireworks show; tour all of the countries in the World Showcase
Disney Studios: Hollywood Tower of Terror; Rock n' Roller Coaster, Great Movie Ride, Star Tours, Fantasmic
Animal Kingdom: Dinosaur, It's tough to be a bug, Expedition Everest, Kali River Rapids, Kilimanjaro Safari
There is so much to see and experience. I hope you have a great time! |

Well my family (of 5) stayed for 7 nights and 8 days in disney about 5 years ago and I know it was about 5,000 (including plan tickets, park hopper passes, food, shopping, etc..)
We stayed In Port Orleans, Riverside! One of the inexpensive hotels but really nice!
Tips:
Get The Park Hopper Passes!!!!!!!!
Take brakes during th day: In the morning to the afternoon, go to one park, then by 2 or 3, go back to your hotel and take a break, shower, pool. Then by 5 or 6, go to another park for the rest of the night! This will help you to stay awake for the rest of the day! lol
Spend your money wisely! Disney isnt cheap, so plan how much you want to spend everyday; food and shopping
Drink LOTS of water!
Go on ALL the rides!!
Plan ahead on what you want to do everyday..parks, where to eat..etc
Hope this helps! |

I SPENT ABOUT 400 BUCKS ON GAS AND FOOD. I WENT TO VISIT A RESORT THAT REQUIRES YOU TO TAKE A 90 MINUTE TOUR AND THEY PAID FOR US TO STAY ON THE RESORT FOR 4 DAYS AND 3 NIGHTS. THEY FED US BEFORE THE TOUR AND THEY ALSO GAVE US TWO DISNEY TICKETS. AFTER THAT TOUR WE STOPPED AT THE CONVENIENCE STORE THAT SAID 2 DISNEY TICKETS 20 DOLLARS AND THAT TOO WAS A TOUR FOR ANOTHER RESORT SO WE TOOK THAT TOUR AS WELL WE TOOK TOURS THE WHOLE FIRST DAY AND WE GOT 10 FREE TICKETS IN ALL. THE NEXT DAY WE WENT TO DISNEY. AND WE STAYED ON THE RESORT AND HAD ACCESS TO ALL THE AMENITIES OF THE RESORT SO WE ATE IN A LOT IN THE FULL KITCHEN BECAUSE THERE WAS A GROCER ON THE PROPERTY. IT WAS NICE FOR A FAMILY OF 10 WE HAD A BLAST. |
