How much do you tip a bellhop or someone that is holding your luggage at the hotel? |
This would be for a NYC (Manhattan) hotel in Times Square. I will need to leave my luggage at least once with them (prior to check in and maybe after checking out). When do I tip as shifts may change and the same person may not be working there anymore? I assume I do tip though right? I have before for similar situations. But if it's just held behind the front desk, sometimes I have not if I have to carry it over myself and they just close a door. Additional Details Thanks for the answers, but do I give the money to them when I give them my bags or when I get them back? |

Just a couple of bucks if it's one or two bags...maybe a bit more if you have more bags. |

I travel a lot. My rule of thumb is a five dollar bill to each person in atleast a 3 star hotel. It needs to be at both the drop off and pick up as there are different shifts. If the bellhop is the same as the valet and sees my luggage from car to room or from checkpoint to car and loads it all for me, with a smile and holds and open my doors, it's a slam dunk ten spot.
Enjoy NYC it's lovely at Christmas and Holdiay time.

If it is NYC and just the one trip to your room and not an extream amount of luggage.A five should be enough.Remember they do get paid. |

$5 to the bag carrier, you don't have to tip when you are checking but you should tip anyone who brings anything into your room and if you ask a concierge for directions give them $2 also leave $3 for housekeeping every morning |

Bellhops should always be tipped. from what i have experienced, in NYC the minimum is $5.00 a bag. the tip will also cover local questions you may have. |
