How much do you tip a helicopter pilot?

I'm travelling with my fiance to Las Vegas and doing a 3.5 hour helicopter tour of the Grand Canyon. I've heard it's customary to tip the helicopter pilot but I haven't the first clue how much would be appropriate. The flight costs $250 USD per person.

Tipping in all industries follows the same general standard. 10% for poor service, 15% for good service and 20% (or more) for exceptional service.
With a helicopter pilot, if poor service amounts to a crash, I probably wouldn't tip at all! lol

If he does a good job..10 to 20% per person, so a $500 flight should be $50 to $100 tip.

Muskie
I believe $50 for both you & fiance is appropriate.

mrphaka
15% is fair id say.

Wait till the flight is over and give him what you feel appropriate. Id say if he is good tour guide and has a good since of humour then $50 would be cool gives him a chance to go out on a date or gas up the car.

I'd give a $20 just to be safe.

mmvmartha
the tip should be based a little bit on the ride and how helpful and efficient he is. about 10-15% should be fine.

20 dollars should do it, just smile, give the cash and say thanks.

pay him as much as you think is nessasary, even if it means paying an extra 500 bucks

I would tell him to buy stock in Cisco (CSCO) or Lam (LRCX). That ought to be a good enough tip for anyone

Never tip a pilot its bad luck, if you want to do anything for these blood sucking varmits give him a pigs trotter.

I am a great believer in being generous for good service, I would therefore suggest a tip of 50 cents or if he shares any of his sandwiches with you perhaps a dollar. I am sure he would always remember you and your fiance after this sort of generous tip.

I hope you enjoy your trip
