Check www.zillow.com for your specific location and it will give you a range as well as what houses like that are selling for in the area of interest. It is the best tool I have found on the internet.

Another good place to check is www.realtor.com to check listings.

A 3BR house in San Francisco (since that is where you posted this question) is going for about $700K to $1.5M depending on where and how nice it is.

as your first answer said , it varies greatly from one area to another.
In my area it's about $80,000 to $130,000. for a median price three bdrm house

Anyway... it depends entirely on the state, city, neighborhood, etc... as well as the size of the house, amenities, etc, etc, etc...

In San Francisco (coz that's where you asked), a 3 bedroom single family home starts around $500,000 (for something very small, ugly, and in a bad neighborhood) and goes up to a couple million (and more)... probably averaging around $700K to 1 million.

Other parts of country, it starts around $60,000. And everywhere in between. So... it varies A LOT!

In San Francisco Bay area maybe $499,000 in a suburb in Contra Costa County which is located way out toward Livermore or in a very high crime city like Richmond, East Palo Alto, or Oakland's west side.

It easilly goes over $2,500,000 in a ritzy neigthborhood. In a regular working class neighborhood it's around $800,000 to $1,500,000 for an ordinary old house that's not too fancy.

It depends on where you are buying. Even from state to state the prices can vary greatly. My hubby and I were looking in our town for a 3 bedroom and could not find one for under $250,000, but we looked into another town that is less "prestigious" and found a great 5 (yes, five) bedroom for only $165,000.

I'ts all gonna depend on were you wanna live.I live in Maine and its fairly cheep, I pay $850.00 a month for a 4 bedroom 2 bath house in China Maine. I've lived in Massachusetts on the Cape,sorry CapeCod Mass, and ive paid 1,600.00 for a three bedroom, you do the math.lol

It all depends on location, location, location. A 3 bedroom mansion in small town, north dakota may be the same prie as a studio condo on the beach.
