It's pretty safe. I would suggest not to go too east or too west side of the Manhattan alone late at night and stay below 92nd street..(late at night,, alone)
There are police everywhere too, so just enjoy the trip! Have fun!! |

It's mostly safe. There are areas where it might be unsafe....but if you stick to touristy zones there will be no problem at all.
It's also very friendly, contrary to what you hear. I find people in NY more friendly then other parts of the country.
Another thing nice about the city, for me, is that everyone walks with a purpose. No slow walkers in New York. |

Oh come on! NYC is as safe as any other place in the world, I am a native New Yorker and nothing ever happened to me for 30 years while I lived there! That stuff only happens in the movies. |

Having been to NYC MANY times, I can tell you that it is one of the safest Big cities that you can go to. I've never had a problem and I'm also from a small town originally. I'm also not usually good at navigating the Metro in Washington DC, but In NYC, it's very easy to understand. Have fun and good luck. The only thing I would tell you is to watch out for the bums in the subway. |

They are absolutely RIGHT. If you act like a tourist, you may run into trouble. If you know your way around, and walk tall, you should be ok. Unfortunately, it's a big city, and there's people who prey on people who don't know their way around the city. Coming from Kentucky, and being that this is your first visit to NYC. BE CAREFUL. Don't walk around with a camera taking pictures, and looking up and the skyscrapers. You will be a dead give-away. When I say walk tall. That is exactly what I mean. In New York we have a saying. Like if a person walks like they are confident, and secure, and has a strong firm walk. Walk fast. Look like you know what you're doing. Look like "hey no one is gonna mess with me", and they probably WON'T. And, if you are a girl. Hold onto your purse. Watch it. Watch where your money is, credit cards. Good Luck Be safe. Enjoy NY. It's an awesome place. |

Be smart! Do not go to areas where seem shady. Stay away from areas infested with drug dealers and prostitutes. You can usually tell what is and is not safe.
Stay with the crowds! Since NY is a large tourist area, there are plenty of people with your same concern. Chances are that the crowds are in safer areas.
Zip you pockets. NY has plenty of pickpocketers. Do not leave any valuable things in unprotected pockets. Back pockets are especially easy to steal from.
Stay at well populated hotels. And always keep a cell phone on hand!` |

I would just keep your wallet in your front pocket if you can try and carry a small purse...try not to stare to much |

nowhere is 100% safe. NYC would be fine in the daytime, because there's A LOT of people but i don't think that you should be wandering the streets alone at night. the safest place to be in would be Rockefeller center. |

Keep your hand on your wallet and don't go out alone. You'll be fine. |

NYC is very safe in the daytime. And also safe at night when there is an event.
At nite, you want to avoid-
Chinatown
All Parks(used for gang and drug activity)
Subway alleys
If you stay at a hotel, ask the receptionist for a map of all the safe places at night. |

Stay on the main strips. In those areas, there are too many people around for someone to attack and mug you. Don't go into alleys and back roads, that's where the predators hang out. Also, do this clever trick, get a chain wallet. when you are hooking the chain to your belt loop, put it through the belt loop and thin hook it back on the chain. The robber would have to cut off your belt loop in order to steal your wallet. also don't keep your wallet in your butt pocket. don't worry and good luck! |

Don't go into dark alleys.
Stay away from people you don't know.
Don't go out after 11pm alone.
Just always have somebody with you, and you'll be just dandy. |

I just went to NJ, never been in NY. But if I was to go I would get outside just if a big group or 2 or 3 more people is coming with me. I saw NY from the distance and didn't like it at all. But I think Las Vegas is worst. |

it depends on you
if you are an attractive young lady i would fear a bit more for my safety
just stay away from dark uninhabited streets, watch your wallet/purse
try to stay away from the shady parts of town (central park, the bronx, etc.)
during the say its fine. they are sooo many cops nobody would try nothing
night can be dangerous. try to stay in well lit and populated areas
new yorks great, you'll love it |

New York City is not very safe! Just hold on everything and you will probably not get mugged. Anyway, I moved away and when I visit, I here gun shots. If you go, be careful! Oh, trust me. I used to like in NYC! Hope I helped! |
