How serious is Hurricane Ike?

My parents seem to be very ignorant about the hurricane, and I myself seem to believe that Ike is gonna be CRAZY.
All we've done so far was pick up a couple gallons of water. What else can I do to prepare my stay during the hurricane?
Do you think Ike is gonna be intense?

board up your windows, have flashlights, candles avaiable, fill your bath tub with water (for flushing the toilet if you lose power-if you on well water like I am). Have at least a 3 day food supply on hand for each person in the house, do not venture outside when it gets windier than it already it. Stay in a room that is centrally located in the house with no windows etc. Use common sense....Don't listen to all they hype on the news station, they are now working onthe dramatic effect.

Depends on where you live. I live in Houston and I'm getting kinda paranoid about the hurricane coming too. I think the wind will definitely be intense.

Make sure you get snacks, batteries, or any essential supplies that you think you might need.

Susanna, no you're 30 miles inland not 60.

CEE:

Check your supply of canned goods. Do you have a way to cook and prepare food with no electricity (we have a Coleman stove used for camping)? Move any patio furniture or loose things in the yard into the house or garage. Be sure you have flashlights with batteries, or candles. Flashlights don't fall over and cause fires, though. If you must have candles and can't find them at the supermarket, go to Michaels and buy a bag of 100 tea candles for seven bucks. I doubt there will be plywood available to board up windows, so don't sweat that one. Just draw blinds and curtains to cover.

Any medications
A battery operated radio.

board up your windows, this is going to be a strong wind storm..

along coast-gavleston, freeport winds are up to 120MPH

Houston 90MPH

college station, conroe, etc 85MPH

further north 70MPH

this is serious wind

pee wees mommy
it's supposed to be wind gusts up to 150 mph with sustained wind of atleast 60 or 70 here. from midnight to 7 is expected to be our worst in dayton.

get a tub full of water, get non-perishable foods if there any stores left open in your area (we're under mandatory evacuation so no stores for us), get flashlights and lots of batteries, preferably find a small battery tv/radio for news, board up the windows, clear any debris from your yard that can be blown around and secure anything you can't put up, get your showers now before you lose lights, bring any pets inside or get them to a secure location and just try to be safe. during the storm try to get to the middle room of your house with no windows.

good luck!

blahblah
well, i am in the same situation..my parents are being ignorant about this hurricane.
well, most houstonians are being ignorant [no offense] and i understand why..hurricane rita had loads of traffic [i still remember driving forever] and no one wants to go through the same situation..
just remember to fill your bathtub with water [local news channels have been saying that the electricity will go out soon..like on saturday..so be aware of that], have batteries and flashlights...also [for some reason], while i was listening to the radio, they said don't use candles..but i dont understand why..I myself think this hurricane is weakening but we can never be too sure...i pray that people in galveston, corpus christi, and houston [us] stay safe..be safe!

It's supposed to be very bad, but as usual, it can always become another tropical storm. I believe Houston wants to be in the news.
