Judging from some of the answers you've given to other answers, I humbly suggest you should pick another city to visit.

Detroit has no more room for close-minded people.

You have to know that in ALL big cities to use common sense especially those you are not used to. Don't go to areas you don't know after dark. Check out where you want to go during the day so you'll know when your night event comes. This advise goes for everywhere. Don't brag about your looks or show off fancy jewelry.

You'll be fine, just stay clear of the blighted neighborhoods. Don't be out by yourself after dark, and don't describe yourself as looking like Katherine McPee on the net, now you'll have every rapist and wierdo in the D looking for your "green eyes and big boobs." Living in Philly, you got the idea of what it's like to stay safe, use common sense and you'll have a great time.

Detroit like any Major City there is the good and the bad. Stick to the Good area and dont go to the bad one and you will be very fine.

You'll be fine, just make sure you stay to the main areas. Downtown is safe. Avoid the "ghetto" neighborhoods.

You will be in downtown Detroit and I guarantee you you will have no problems. No one is going to mess with you. I mean as long as you have basic common sense you should have no problems. If something doesn't look like then of course avoid it but i'm sure you will be safe and have a good time.

Use your common sense and you will be fine. Detroit is a wonderful city to visit. You're coming as a tourist so all the touristy things you would like to see and do will keep you out of harms way. Good luck and enjoy D-town!

You will be fine in Detroit. The people there are very accepting and open minded. It's Flint, MI you want stay away from. They are #3 on the national list for crime above Detroit!

You'll probably be fine just try to stay away from bad neighborhoods. I used to go to Detriot all the time and nothing bad has ever happened to me. When I was little I got lost from my parents in the Palace and I was fine. But it might be different for you, just try to use common sense.

Are you kidding me, this is Stevie and Areatha's hometown. You'll be more than welcomed here. Stevie was one of te original motown artist when they were still here in Detroit and Areatha's roots is primarily found in Detroit. Many of the songs that Motown artist sung were basically describing Detroit. You don't have to worry about that at all.

Anyway, just mind your own business where ever you go (whether the area is bad or good). Just make yourself blend in like another resident of the city and you'll do just fine. The people here are very friendly and the generation coming up today isn't nowhere near as segregated as before.

we detroit ppl r nice ppl..if you are nice to us generally we are nice back..i live in "the ghetto" but ppl are soooo friendly here you wont have a problem..it may not be the most clean city but it is beautiful in its own way i think...I HOPE YOU HAVE FUN WHEN/IF YOU COME HERE!!

You'll be fine, the "bad guys" have no reason to hurt you. You don't owe them crack money, I presume? The people are generally very friendly. If you are really nervous, just stay in the nice part (east of I-75 primarily, though there are nice parts to the west). Enjoy yourself, and welcome to Detroit!

FIrst off, you'll be treated in Detroit exactly as if you were one of their own. Mean, rotten, nasty, and ignorant. Well, hey, if they treat their own neighbors that way, why would they be any different to outsiders?

And second, being from Philadelphia, you'll feel right at home. Really, it's not much different. Whatever street sense you use in Philly, use the same in Detroit. It even smells the same, whether crossing the Rouge River into Detroit, or the river between Philly and South Philly. Like somebody's old underwear that's been worn and not washed for six months.
