How would you compare Houston to other cities you've lived in?

If you could change something about Houston, what would it be?
Additional Details
Actually coming from Miami, traffic here isn't that bad for me.

I have lived in Dallas and Austin. Now in the Houston area (The Woodlands) for going on 5 years. All the cities have some similarities and yet some very unique qualities about each.

If I could change something about Houston. I would make Houston have zoning laws. That drives me nuts to see tall office buildings next to house.

I would wish that Galveston was more like Mexico beaches and that clear blue water.

Also, would lower the humidity rate. A girl just can't hardly get a good hair day around here.

I would also have Houstonians stop giving me a hard time about my Cowboys. I will be more than happy to support the Texans when they are not playing my boys.

Too many cars, to many people, tons of road work, boring as hell, and bad drainage when it rains it floods.

I've lived in NYC, Paris, Palm Beach, Washington DC & Houston. It took me a few years but I've learned to appreciate it's good points.....low cost of living, friendly people, great, inexpensive restaurants, good private schools.

I'm with the others wishing for a cleaner beach (yea, I know, it's a gulf), less humidity, less traffic, etc.

Too boring, not enough tourist spots, too spread out, fake friendliness, not enough universities for a city of its size, too pro-business, not enough culture.

I lived in Fort Lauderdale and I can tell you that people in Houston are a lot friendlier! I used to hate saying hi to people and never getting a hello back. People are so rude in S. Florida. The cost of living is so much cheaper! I couldnt even buy a 1 bedroom condo for $160,000 unless I lived in Lauderhill which is so ghetto. One thing that I definitely wish that Houston had was a nice beach. I miss South Beach!

Traffic is really the worst thing about Houston. Interstates stacked three and four high... "Rush Hour" is "Rush Hours"... its not really that good.

Evening and morning and lunch hour traffic it really bad.. I would change the hurry everyone is in to get nowhere any faster than I do..they come flying by you just for you to catch them at the next light..

I've lived in Houston and Philadelphia and then Houston again because I missed it so much. The people are much friendlier in Houston than in Philly, you dont have to suffer through a winter, we have a beach (maybe make it white sand if I could change something), also another strong point is the MEXICAN FOOD (which you cant get in Philly) its very good here and the housing is cheap.

The thing I would change about Houston is make it closer to other large cities (like Philly) so we would have more museums to go to and more places to see. Also our mass transit system is a joke. We need a more expansive system to cut down on traffic.

I would say, less crime and Houston definatley has a funk about it. Plant more good smelly flowers.

I would switch locations with Denver Colorado or Portland Maine so they weather was a filthy sticky bug filled sauna with pollution.

I am from Fairbanks & if I could find work up there to support me in the manner in which I have been accustomed I would Love to go back there,

Houston may have been great 20 years ago but acording to most it's gotten real ghetto & the influx of New Orleans refugees really screwed houston up worse.

I lived in Seattle briefly which is beautiful but be sure you have a raincoat, umbrella & Boots lol.

Denver kicks butt & so does Fairbanks, esp in the winter!

A hell of a lot cleaner than NYC, and the people are friendlier too. Everything that stands still is NOT spraypainted here in Houston. We don't have winter (NY does, and it is a dirty, gray snow).

What would I change? The humidity. I use a ton of stuff that is almost shellac to keep my hair neat and combed.

EDIT: By the way, Mizzzzhollywood is a twit who hates Houston because she can't find a job.

mizzhollywood26
I've been here for 2 yrs., and I can honestly say that Houston is the most boring place in the U.S. And they always look at what other cities are doing, and then copy. Everyone born and raised here has fake speech. They try to hide their accents, but it doesn't work. And quite frankly, this really isn't a tourist town. It's really a wannabe NYC, and Galveston is a wannabe Long Island.

ANGEE C
I love Houston, I've never lived anywhere else but I've visited and there is no place like home! If I could change something in Houston it would be to build better streets to stop flooding!
