Folks here in Jax are getting prepared, but we haven't had a direct hit from a hurricane in 50 years, and it doesn't look like we will this time either. We'll be just fine in Jax.
Frances did some damage about 4 yrs. ago which meant no electricity in some neighborhoods for a few days, people lost docks because of the surge, many had roof damage, and there were some trees down. Fay has lost intensity and probably won't get to a cat 1 status. Cat 1 can still do damage, and you have to put all your stuff in your yard away so it doesn't become a missile, but 1 and 2 you can ride out. The biggest concern (after a tree falling on the house which you can't stop) is knowing you could lose electricity, so you need to have water and non-perishable food on hand to get you through a few days.
Mirella, Jacksonville is NOT in the panhandle but on the Atlantic coast. |

The storm will be affecting almost the full state of Florida in several ways withe rain, winds and flooding. |

I live in jacksonville florida and they closed school yesterday, today and, tomorrow. They say we haven't seen the worst of Fay yet and it hasn't been bad at all for us but I don't know if it will be. I don't think so though. It's not even a hurricane yet just a tropical storm. |

Of course it will affect them in some way but no one knows how or to what extent. If it hits with full force, it will damage thier home, their car and whatever else they have outside.
But if it misses them, they will only get some rain, maybe.
Call them and tell them to phone you with the answer when they get it.
Get on your computer and ask the WEATHER CHANNEL people. |

Maybe unless it takes off into a different direction.
But not anytime soon.
I live in Plant City [small town, by Brandon] and we're not in the storm yet. But may be later today. |

So far it's not that bad. School's are closed, but I wouldn't worry about them. It's real sweet of you to think of them, and I'm sure they'd appreciate a call, but it's not even a hurricane yet and the maximum wind speed is about 70 miles. It isn't expected to grow, but you never know. Good luck to your friends, and don't worry too much. Just tune in on the news if you really wanna know. P.S. Jacksonville is very far away from the expected path, so I'm gonna say there secure in the Panhandle! |

Doubt that Jax will get much out of Fay except some heavy rains. Winds never got to hurricane force to begin with and now that Fay's over land, they'll continue to drop (unless Fay gets back over water to strengthen, and if that happens it'll probably miss Jacksonville altogether.) I don't expect winds much over 40 mph, but could get 6+ inches of rain. |

jacksonville is now definitley part of the projected path since it is now predicted to go to the atlantic and intensify and make a turn west and by that time be a category 1 hurricane. were doomed. at least i have no school |

I live in J'ville and the storm is actually happening as i type. At the moment there is nothing but alot of rain and wind. There is alot of flooding in different areas and some trees down. |

It will definitely affect Jacksonsonville Floridda, but it shouldn't cause that much damage.considering it is not officially a hurricane yet. The wind gusts are only 70 mph, which is not quite at the hurricane level. Howeve, I would not advise leaving the house when fay hits, because it could develop into a worse storm as it travels throughout florida. Good Luck! |
