Geez I hope not, hope stupid are the people that want to spend hundreds of billions of dollars if not more to rebid a city 15 feet below sea level on the ocean in a hurricane corridor? The lack of common sense in supposedly Intelligent" people never ceases to amaze me. NO was and is one of the most vile, violent disgusting cities in America. Many people like myself have very fond memories of time spent in the French Quarter, but its only a square mile 85% of the city are slums that no visitors would ever venture into. Leave it rot, flood it. I cant wait for all the law suits against local, state and federal government in 10 years when people start dying of cancer due to all the residual pollution caused by the floods. What are you people nuts????If you want to rebuild this hell hole, then rebuild it 5-10 miles up stream where its above sea level and somewhat protected. Stop the insanity, geez look at who they just re-elected as mayor, enough said. |

Please consider establishing a safe, clean livable city INSTEAD of making it the same. Regular garbage pickup, reliable police forces and effective mass transit will help. The fact the city is below sea level is not as important. Holland seems to be doing just fine; surely the mighty US of A can have at least one small city below sea level that works! Why not use some of that military might to repair the infrastructure in one of your poorest regions instead of invading countries far away. |

New Orleans will never be the same. It would be impossible, and frankly, why should we rebuild to be exactly like we were? Why not make our city a better place than it was? Why haven't you moved back yet? Come home.
skyyn....you are an idiot. Would you move the entire population of the Florida coastline as well? What about all those cities along the San Andreas fault line? Tornado Alley? Where do you live that you are so safe from anything Nature can do? We are not the only city in this country below sea level. The levees didn't break because of where we are located; they broke because of the ADMITTED failure of the Army Corps of Engineers to do properly do their job in the first place. I hope no part of your hometown is depending on their handiwork.
As for anyone else reading these answers, if you are from New Orleans, come home. People in power are making decisions based on how many people have returned, not how many are still away. You can't make it a better place by staying away, and you have no say in what happens if you aren't here to speak up. There are thousands of jobs begging for people, and housing is getting better a little at a time. Come home. |

Does that mean you wouldn't like it to get better. Face the fact prior to Katrina, New Orleans was a crime ghetto. It still is currently. I live nearby and I wish it would be better. |

Yes, probably so. It might not be the exact same, but I know it will live!!!!!!! I think everyone is trying to make it even better! I do not agree with skyyn777. I just have to say, you are the biggest idiot and loser in the whole wide world. Where do you live, huh? Everywhere in the United States has some problem with it. Plus, New Orleans is NOT 15 feet below sea level, the lowest it gets is like 6 feet. What you are saying about New Orleans is NOT true. You are just some big morone who doesn't no anything about New Orleans. That's just like saying, if you lived in California that they should burn it down cause it's an earthquake zone. Or anywhere in the middle USA should be destroyed because there are tornadoes all the time. Or that the north should just rot out cause there are snowstorms. Or close the southwest cause there are sandstorms. Or wipe away the northeast because there are northeasters. Think about that. Katrina was a "once in a lifetime" experience. It could happen anywhere. In a few years something bad might happen to your town and you'd be criticizing it.
New Orleans will rebuild, renew, and rebirth!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh yeah, skyyn77 is an imature jerk so no one listen to him!
Oh, and New Orleans is not on the ocean BIRDBRAIN!
I also kind of disagree with plume. Have you ever been to New Orleans? They work on the levees every day. It is a hard job, but they will be strong soon. And, there is a lot of hope for New Orleans because people come back each day. Where I live it is perfectly fine. In Uptown, the Garden District, Downtown, the French Quarter, some parts of Midcity, Metairie, and Carrolton, Kenner, and all of the westbank are back and running. If you came to those neighborhoods you could guess there was no such thing as Katrina. So before you say there is no hope, think of what is back in New Orleans. Ok?
Oh, and there is ALOT of housing! People from New Orleans and other states build homes every single day. |

I disagree with skyyn777. I think that his answer was cruel and inconsiderate. I guess he doesn't realize how much value New Orleans has to the state of Louisiana and to the United States. Not only do we have to rebuild for the people who live there and miss it so much, we also need to rebuild because New Orleans is a huge import/export city and is vital to the U.S. and also because of the culture and spice of life that it has. Sure the city has some bad points but it also has its good points. It is like any other city, but it is still unique.
New Orleans is a vital part of almost everyone's lives whether you know or not, either you know someone from there, or you have something that was shipped through there, or you've been there. New Orleans has reached you some way or another.
So that cruel comment made by skyyn777 is wrong. I think next time something like that comes out of his mouth, he needs to think about if something like that would happen to him or someone he knows or is close to, and see how he feels about someone bad mouthing like he did. (I had family that lives in New Orleans and I don't appreciate what you said skyyn777) |

I also am very homesick for New orleans. I love the city and want to go home. But there is no where to live in New Orleans right now. I also dont think that New Orleans will ever be the same as it was before the storm. It is a sad situation. |

it will take time, I would say that in ten years, sure. but there is a hell of a lot that the gulf coast needs to do in the mean time.
hang in there and keep your head up, NOLA will return to it's previous glory. |

Unfortunately, I don't think it will ever be totally the same...but maybe it will be better. We must stay positive. I'm really sad about what happened there because I LOVE New Orleans. |

I don't think it will ever be the same. Families are scattered and there isn't enough housing. There has also been a huge influx of non-natives taking up tons of housing. I know that a lot of people cannot put their trust into rebuilding because of the fact that the levees are in such poor shape. I always worry about the possibility of the canals, which broke during Katrina, breaking in other spots. They are being repaired, but those repairs aren't even going as planned. How can we reinvest in moving ourselves back to the city if the government will not invest in making the levees safe for us to return. It seems like they want us to take the chance and return before they take the chance of giving us the money to make it safe and what common person can afford to take that chance? There does not seem to be much hope. |

well, it will definitely be different but I'm sure that the families that lived there will return making it their home again. Things change and sometimes for the better, hopefully the community comes together and rebuilds and all. This will hopefully bring everyone that was once in the community together as a stronger whole. Just look at the bright side everything will be new!! God Bless! |
