I'm going to Disney in a week is it worth it to add the dining package for a family of four?

I've lost count how many times I've gone to Disney let alone stay on the property. I have done it both ways. If you are a family who eats two solid meals a day, and everyone eats most of their portions, I'd say yes.

It is true that it isn't as good as it used to be since they've removed the appetizer and gratituity, BUT we were rarely ever able to eat all of that and for the two of us even after the change we find it to be the better deal. One of the times we went we were there for a conference and weren't allowed to do the dining plan. We ate at the same places we usually did on the meal plan, and we spent over $650 for the two of us, and I don't eat breakfast.

And just because you're short on time, doesn't mean you can't get into the restaurants this time of year. Dead of sumer when crazy people go there to visit the seventh circle of heat hell, YES. But not now.

They used to allow reservations 180 days in advance and they've changed that to 90 now. I was also told they hold a few slots open for same day ressies now. So call 1-407-939-3463 asap and take the # with you cause people cancel their ressies all the time. Also, at the nicer restaurants, they cahrge a surcharge if you don't show or don't cancel within 24 hours, so around 8 AM you can try to get those reservations.

I also like the fact that I can go to the parks with NO CASH. Cause that room key gets yo into the parks, charges your dining, and nearly anything else you'd want. There's an occasional snack cart that only takes cash, but they are few and far between.

Have fun! Hope it's not too hot yet...teehee...

Just remember it's a lot of food, and you get dessert at every lunch & dinner, which seemed excessive to me. Then I was never hungry to use my snack credits, because I knew I'd already have 2 desserts, and it seemed a waste to use a snack credit on a cheap soda. We also missed a lot of park time trying to make all of our reservations.

Check our menu prices at allears.net, and really decide if you want that much food. But I will say it was great food, and I doubt we would have gone to such nice restaurants if we hadn't already paid.

I have never used the dining plan but it would be something I would seriously consider this year. Package prices including the dining plan are being offered at the best prices I have seen in a very long time. I have been to Disney more than 20 times and I can honestly say you can get the dining plan, tickets, and room this year at a price slightly less that it would have cost just to get tickets and room in the past!

If you want to try it without the plan, however, there are a few ways to save money. A few suggestions I have: 1. Order kids meals, you would be amazed how many times they look to be as large as the adult meals. And oh yes ask if the kids meal comes in a souvenier box. If the attendant says yes, tell her you don't want one. Instant savings of about 1.50! 2. Share adult meals. On mousesavers.com I read about a couple who went into a restaurant where meals were offered with entree and two side items. They ordered a double cheeseburger with a double order of fries for their two side items. They then ordered an extra bun for about 20 cents, which they used for the extra patty in the double cheeseburger. I beleive they both ate for around 7.00 which is amazing in Disney.
Don't forget you can take food into the park as well. We always pack trail mix to snack on and carry those little single packs of crystal lite to go. 2.00 drinks can get expensive after awhile.

Enjoy the trip!

The Disney Dining package is not as good a deal as it has been in the past. It used to be a wonderful deal, but now gratuities are not included and it does not include both an appetizer and a dessert with sit down meals. Plus at this late date it would be almost impossible to get reservations at the popular sit down restaurants. If I were you, I would skip.
