Try 1 of the bus tours of Manhattan; they are a great way to see the main sights quickly; get your bearings, then return to the places that interest you. I don't know if Liberty Island (the Statue of Liberty) is open to visitors at present; if it is it's worth a visit. You can combine that with a visit to Ellis Island which has very moving displays about all the immigrants who were processed there. Ground Zero, as has already been mentioned. We've all seen the pictures, but the size of the site is amazing. Century 21 is next door for some bargain shopping. You can take a day trip to Woodbury Common in New Jersey for some 'discount outlet' shopping. The museums are interesting for your 'culture' fix & you can get discount tickets for Broadway shows at the ticket booth in Times Square. A Sunday tour to Harlem is a great experience. You attend part of a church service & then explore the area. You can stay on for 'soul food' if you like. You should plan beforehand, as New York Is BIG & you don't want to waste your valuable vacation time. There are lots of websites & books available to help you plan & the visitor & convention centres all have very helpful staff. If you are going off the beaten track do be careful; neighbourhoods can change within a few blocks & you can suddenly find yourself in a dodgy area. New York is a great city - enjoy! |

go to the empire state building its fantastic if you go on a sunny bright day you can see for miles from the top of the building.you can also get a boat out to the statue of liberty that also is fantastic. there is a bar there called the peculiar pub the beer in there is great.there is a lot of irish bars too if your irish |

Wal across the Brooklyn bridge, it has an elevated walway made from wood above the road surface, it is like a pier, lots of people walk and cycle over it and you have fantastic views of Manhattan behind you and it costs you nothing |

Loads of nice places to visit- but plan well and pace yourself because you will probably not have time to visit all these places.
Ground Zero (to pay your respects). Whilst visiting Ground Zero you could also go and see the Statue of Liberty, and either go on the boat to it, or see it at a distance. Personally I took a boat ride around the statue, got a really good view of Lower Manhattan at same time as well, but did not stop off at Statue of Liberty.
Times Square is an absolute must! - There are loads of cool things to see. Madame Tussuad's ( the wax museum), catch a Broadway show, or just go shopping. My favorite shops were Virgin and the Hershey's Chocolate Store (worth a visit, just to get a large supply of chocolate for yourself or a friend). Watch out also for the naked cowboy in the heart of times square playing his guitar!
The Empire State Building also worth seeing. Especially at night! But make sure it is a clear evening, otherwise you will be easily disappointed. We went at night it was really clear, but then started to get misty.
NBC/Rockefeller Center - Try and get on the Today Show, or go behind the scenes of the famous American Network NBC.
There's loads more to do, but that was some of the highlights of my visit. Have fun!! |

The Empire State is a must , and so is Grand Central Station. There are so many great things to see and do, try a walk down Time Square at night ...awesome. Whatever you do have fun. |

If you are into you history and have relatives who went to New York in days of old Ellis Island is a good place to go they have an exhibition on the story of immgration in the US, and a searchable database of names.
On the other hand for a bit of a treat why not hire a limo and get tickets for a broadway show - I went with school ten years ago and that's what they did for my birthday and it was fab! |

Um...well Ground Zero is really cool....you should go and see a broadway show, my favorite is Phantom of the Opera. Go to Ellis Island and The Statue of Liberty. Um...Brooklyn Bridge is cool...go and see that. Madison Square Garden, Central Park, and Grand Central Station. How long are you going to be there? Go of course to Times Square, you can see tons of stuff from there...Go get yourself on the Today show, or go check out MTV. Tons of stuff to do! |

i live in new york.. and i've almost been every where and it's boring after a while... so wwhen you see teenagers do stupid things that's because they're bore dand it fun so since you are a tourist heheh.. don't look like a tourist act like you know we're you're going or people will rip you off...
So go to 42 street in manhattan and walk from lexington up if you can so you can see manhattan all the work spaces until you see the big lights :D
Wak on 5th avenue so you can see those fabulous stores like prada and louis vuitton...
go to soho to see quality art and shopping
go to china town for heaper electronics and drink some bubble tea...
when you get to brooklyn go to park slope so you don't get hurt you just have to stick to the safe sides..
When you get to brooklyn go visit that tiny museum that always changes its art it's called the Brooklyn Museum of Art hehehe and the Botanical garden is there..

definately worth doing the helicopter tour... about $200 but worth every second... you get to see all the sights from the best view and you get to feel like a VIP :)
This is one amazing city..... its great just to wander around the village...
