I moved to Denver from Texas last November. Before I moved I got all-weather tires put on my SUV that doesn't have 4-wheel drive. I stayed in the city all winter and found the roads very driveable. If you plan to drive up into the mountains 4-wheel drive is probably a must, but there are other modes of transporation like the ski train to Winter Park that I took advantage of in order to avoid the driving.
I was also advised to put an emergency kit in my car (water, rope, compass, shovel, sleeping bag) but since I stayed in the city never had use for it. I did however find it incredibly useful to have a bottle of windshield wiper fluid in the car that is made for winter weather. Your car gets very dirty during the winter and if you can't use the windshield wipers to clean off the windshield because the fluid is frozen or out you'll have a heck of a time seeing to drive.
Same goes for the weather radio that I bought for the house - never had any power outages or major storms that would have required it.
If you have a dog, I'd recommend a coat and booties. My older dog had a bit of trouble with the cold and snow.
Obviously you need a heavy coat, scarf, gloves, hat. In addition, I got a pair of snow boots (northface) and they came in really handy to avoid slipping and falling on packed snow and ice. I also bought some things that slip onto the bottom of your shoes that have metal grippers but never did try them out.
The winter is really not that bad here - the days vary between snow and sunny warmer days that melt the snow away. Being a mile closer to the sun truly does make it much warmer so when it's 40 degrees outside and sunny with no wind, you can get by with a t-shirt.
You're going to love it here - I never want to set foot back in Texas! |

Well, I did the opposite of what you did. Anyway, you should know that you're going to need plenty of warm clothes - long sleeves, sweaters/hoodies, beanies/hat, gloves, thick socks, some good boots (soles/traction, waterproof), sunglasses, sunscreen, lotion (for dry skin).
Skis, snowboard, a sled.
Those are just a few things that come to mind. |

Polarized sunglasses and sunscreen
Even in the winter! - the atmosphere is so much thinner up here and you need to protect your eyes and skin. |

You;ll defintely need a good four wheel drive vehicle. Talk to people who have lived there a long time. The winters can be very dangerous. Colorado may well be the most beautiful state in this country.Sking is great, fishing and hunting is as good as it gets.there is something for everybody. Have fun, You'll love it |

I moved from TX to CO. The winters aren't that bad esp. if yo have good tires. Snow tires are a waste of time- just drive slower.
Warm clothes for the winter but the winters aren't that bad- it gets cold and stays cold but not bone chlling cold and the sun will be out it's just 40 deg when the sun is out.
It does take a little while to get used to the thin air- esp when drinking. Bring a sense of adventure b/c CO is great. |

Make up an emergency kit for your car. Blankets, shovel, food, water, etc. It is very easy to get stranded in your car due to white-outs, and deep snows. Get winter wiper blades for your car. You will probably need a warm winter coat and a couple of pairs of gloves.
It depends on where in Colorado you will be, but these are the most common items. Get a good state map, too. Remember that it will take you a couple of days to get used to the thin air.
Regards,

You will need a heavy parka for winter. Also you will need snow tires if driving in the winter. There's not really a whole lot. |

Driving lessons, in my experience all the Texans that move here cannot drive, especially in the winter. |
