I'm planning on moving to california as soon as I graduate from high school. Where are the cheapest places???

I'm not really sure what area I want to move to, but I want somewhere that is between $400.00 and $750.00 a month in a decent area.

NOT in CA for under $750 a month!

MOST areas of the USA you are NOT going to live very well for $750 a month!

MAYBE you can rent a room for that?????

wow
for that price
i think you'll be able to find a motor home in san bernardino
where ghetto dwellers live

Time travler
You may be able to find something in the central part of California, like Stockton, Modesto, Or Fresno. Also try north like Red Bluff, Winters, or Redding. Don't even bother looking at any coastal towns or anywhere near LA or San Francisco. These are all out of your price range.

Most people solve this expensive problem by sharing expenses with roommates. You can check the LA Times, craigslist, Free Press and numerous other places to try and find one....Good Luck....

HA, HA, HA!!!!
Another comedian?
You're going to need to look around on the internet a LOT more than you have, that's for sure. That's the only way you'll actually get the serious reality-check you need.
I don't know where you're from, but even the cheapest house in a decent area sells for $600,000. Compare that to the Midwest, where they sell for between $80,000 and $125,000. If that's the cost to buy a 3 bedroom tract house here, imagine what rent costs.

Obviousman
You don't want the cheap places. Unless you like ghetto, of course. Since you asked this in the LA forum, I can tell you that a decent 1BR apartment in a decent neighborhood will cost around $1200. So go to college, directly to college, don't pass GO, don't come to LA until you have a degree and some skills. This town has about a million wannabe actors and singers who don't mind working crappy jobs until they make their "big break". So all the bartender and waitress jobs are filled. And the illegal aliens are clearing off the tables.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but that's reality.

You are dreaming. If you are moving to California you need to have money saved in the bank. Five to seven thousand will get you through a few months while you move in and find a job.

If you want to move to California, and want a nice place to live....do it while getting an education.

Get a scholarship, get financial aide through the school, and stay on campus. Get a job while you are there and save save save.

Median apartments cost between 900.00-1200.00.

Getting a roomate is another option, but be prepared for shared expenses to cost you about 1200 per month EACH. (and that is cheeeeeeeeeeeap)

Think of:
Apartment cost
renters insurance
car expenses/bus fare
car insurance
groceries/food out/entertainment
gas and electric bill
all your normal bills (cred card, car payment etc)

These can take you in to the thousands

Can you afford to move???

Choc1
You might be able to afford $750 in bakersfield or some place like barstow. Other than that, $400-$750 is only gas money in L.A., S.D. and S.F metros. Good Luck!

The only practical way to do this in a decent area would be to find one or more roommates, and that is my recommendation.

By the way, once you have established residency in California (one year, so save an envelope with a dated postmark to your California address as soon as you have it), you will be able to get preferential rates for school. Then you can enroll in a college or junior college here, which is the thing to do. You will need to complete your education to get ahead in California.

Good luck. Find a roommate on Craigslist.
