My son started traveling by himself last year when he was only 7!!! There is absolutely nothing to be scared of. The airlines sit minors at the very front of the plane and treat them very well. If you like to read, take a book or some fun magazines. The flight will be over before you know it. Have fun!

Kiss ur parents goodbye & give them big hugs... Nah, im j/k its not that bad. There is nothing to fear, u r safer in that plane than driving down the street.

Don't worry, just fall asleep, planes are kinda fun if you look out the windows too..

It's not that scary.

Take a hand held video game, it's really not that bad and once it's over with you'll be less afraid to do it again.

bold4bs
First purchase "motion sickness" pills from your local pharmacy.

Ask for center seats on the airplane.

You will be fine.

wjdoyle35
read a book and put some tunes on

I would let the flight attendant know so she can help you out if you need her/him. not only are they there for you safety on the flight but can assist you too. You can bring a book too to read to ease your mind of of being scared.

if your scared of heights stay away from the window seats. get some motion sickmness pills and take a couple about 20 minutes before your flight.

it's not really scary, just seems like it.. you'll enjoy it once your in the air.

Tell your parents about your fear. They can guide you on the best way to deal with it.

Just sit back, relax and enjoy the ride. I used to be very afraid to fly when I was young too, and the ironic thing is that I have a job now that I fly almost once a week. It truly is safer than a car. It is also a magnificent sight to look out and see all of the colors of the earth as you fly over it. I always say a prayer that God send the strongest angels to sit on the plane's wings and guide us safely and it always happens!! Happy flying!

Aim for the face :).

You are classified in the Airline Industry as an "Young Adult". You should notify the Airline and advise that you are traveling by yourself. Most Airlines will assist you at the departure and arrival airport. When You check in make sure you tell the check-in agent that you are traveling by yourself. If you need assistance most companies will have someone escort you to the gate, if you like. When entering the aircraft tell the flight attendant the same. This will ensure that they check on you during the flight. If you a seating next to someone that makes you uncomfortable, ask the attendant if you can be moved to another seat. In most cases unless the flight is entirely booked, there will be another seat or they will ask another customer to switch with you. Make sure that whoever is picking you up is aware of all flight information (Airline, Airport, Arrival time, Flight Number, and Airline Telephone number in case of delay). If you need assistance once you land, all airlines have host or hostess to assist you. Good luck and have a safe trip.

take your ipod or walkman or whatever you use to listen to music. don't be afraid to take a favorite blanket or stuffed animal or whatever makes you feel safe and then keep it on the seat next to you. i'm 29 and still take "teddy" with me where ever i go! especially on a plane. I end up being worried that something will happen to him and i end up forgetting that i'm scared.

Have you ever been on a plane before? Cuz that might help, but if not thats fine. I am actually about the same age and am doing the same thing this summer. I've only been on a plane once before. Here are some tips:
-Bring gum. chew it on lift off and coming down. It helps your ears from popping.
-Carry On. If you want to bring stuff to do while riding on the plane pack it in a carry on bag like a duffel bag i think would be good. Pack everything else that you dont want for the ride in a normal suitcase.
-Bring entertainment. Anything that will help entertain you on the ride. Books, Music, Crossword puzzles, Camera to take pics, Small Pillow/ Jacket to sleep, etc.
-Try to go before you leave so you don't have to go on the plane. You don't know how their toilets may be. Most of the time thought they are clean.
-Put something like string or colorful tape on your luggage. Or have it be a distinctive color. Put yout name on it. Something to recognise it at the luggage pick up.
-Pack one or two extra pairs of clothes for the trip. You don't know if your gonna get them muddy or something.
-Pack money and phone card or cell/charger. That way if your stuck at the airport for a few minutes until your ride comes you can get something to eat. Then you can use the card & money to use a pay phone and call your parents and say you made it. Same with cell.

I think thats about it=)
Hope your trip is fun!

I was scared to death the first time I was to fly too. I sat by the window and looked out it was absolutely beautiful. Once I saw the sights I was more relaxed. Taking off and landing was a little scary but I will always remember the sites outside my window. When we were flying above the clouds they looked like snow, like you could just walk out on them and hear the crunch beneath your feet. Flying over certain states there were little squares of land and the water looked like mirrors. It will be a special time so don't be scared. Take an empty journal and write down what you see and what you feel.

Trust me, I freaked out when I flew bye myself for the first time. I went went to Arkansas from New York when I was twelve. The worst thing that could happen is that they give you stale chips on the plane or something dumb like that. Just bring something to do and try to sit by yourself. I had to sit by some annoying girl from Alaska that wouldn't shut up. Or at least bring some music to ignore them. ;)

buck_wonderz
take a stuffed animal or somtin to do to keep ur mind off of it im 17 n i aint never flown so i cant really tell ya anything cuz ive never done it good luck
have a great day

Think of it as a rollercoaster ride. You start going along the ground at a high rate of speed then all of a sudden you are floating and flying. Don't worry.

i'm afraid of hights, but i had to live in alaska for a year and a half so i had to fly. my first flight was from savannah to atlanta and i tried to think of a song, but that back-fired because all i could think about was "ironic" bu alanis morsett. on my conneting flight to salt lake city i got up the nerve to look out the window and all i could see was clouds...I thought of the clouds as the road and the plan as a big bus and i was alright. I've taken the trip back and forth 5 times after that and as long as i thought of it as a big bus i was okay.
lostinlove is absolutely right about the sites, that helped alot too.

have a good trip.

Well..always remember, if your scared about it crashing or anything. You have a much better chance of crashing in a car than you do in a plane. Not trying to scare you there, that's just the statistics. If I were you, I'd try to take something along to keep you occupied. Like a book, word seach, game, whatever would keep you thinking about something other than the flight.
