I am driving 1100 miles from southern california to above portland oregon. Any tips?

Ive never drove more than about 250 miles before. So, I guess I'm an inexperienced distance driver. I want to do it in about 3 days of driving,... no more. Im going in a few weeks. Any advice on this stuff?

It should be no problem is you have a good car. make sure you have some cash for any repairs that may be needed if a breakdown, and a credit card for sure!
Take some time to research the route, and the weather forcast so you'll be prepared.
Take some snacks that don't make you sleepy....not too much sugar! Apples keep you more alert than coffee if you need something to pick you up part way through the trip.
Have bottled water in the car and make sure your spare is pumped up! take jumper cables in case you leave your lights on and a hidden magnet key incase your keys get lost or locked inside.
You'll have fun, sounds like you are in no hurry, I bet you could make it in two days easy if you wanted to, but if you want to make it fun the extra day will be far more relaxing.
Have a Great trip, and if you don't have AAA you should get it.
Doesn't cost that much and could save you a bundle if anything happend on the road.

You can definitely do that in 3 days.......are you going buy yourself? I would say just bring lots of music to listen to that will keep you entertained and keep you from falling asleep if you get tired.

Watch out for bored drivers that play games on the freeways of California. (Tag).
If there is snow between Yreka, CA. and Ashland, OR. leave the Interstate at Weed, Ca. Take Hwy 97 NO. to Hwy 58 to Eugene, OR.
The Oregon State Troopers will give you 7 or 8 MPH over the posted 55, 10 gets you a ticket.

1. Expect a variety of weather. You could see snow, ice, rain, hail, sunshine, and pretty much anything else.
2. Don't drive too aggressively or fast. If you drive 8 to 12 hours a day, you'll have plenty of time. Drive with traffic!

Make sure you have money for gas and motels. Try to avoid driving in rush hour, drive during times where there is a very small amount of traffic. Bring a map and directions, multiple copies is good. If you are driving 1100 miles I am assuming that you live in the San Diego area. I would suggest start driving around 10 in the morning and drive until you get to San Francisco. Assuming you are taking breaks occasionally for food you will probably be in San Fran by 8 P.M. Get a hotel (make sure you arrange hotel rooms in advance), and get a good night's sleep. You can get most of the way to San Fran from San Diego just driving on the I-5 North. Now for the second day of driving you have a choice to make. If you leave San Fran around 9 or 10 you can get to Portland by around midnight. It's a lot of highway driving, and especially after driving so much on the first day you may want to have a shorter driving day. My personal suggestion is leave around 10 in the morning. Drive until you get to Medford, Oregon, it's probably the biggest city you'll be near after you pass into Oregon. Stop there for the night. The drive from Medford to Portland is about 6 hours with rests. That's about the best way I can think of to get there in 3 days. It's not too difficult of driving because you will be driving on the I-5 North most of the way there.

AFTER DRIVING FOR 3 HRS U MUST TAKE A BREAK.WASH UR FACE. HAVE COFFEE.DO NOT DRIVE CONTINUOUSLY FOR MORE THAN 4 HRS. UR EYES MAY BECOME STATIC, WHICH IS A POTENTIAL HAZARD FOR ACCIDENT.

That is plenty of time for a nice enjoyable trip. Get a map for the entire coast. You can take interstate 5 and get there quickly, but it's a very boring drive with little to see. Take highway 1 and enjoy yourself. You can average 50 miles an hour and have plenty of time. The scenery is beautiful. You will see Santa Barbara, Cambria, Carmel, Monterrey, San Francisco, the Redwoods, and magnificent coast line. Plan to get a good night's sleep every night. You don't want to drive tired. Stop every couple of hours to walk around and stretch your legs. Bring bottled water and snacks. Wear sunglasses. There is quite a glare off the water. Wear your seat belt, keep your doors locked, and don't pick up hitchhikers. Just common sense. Wish I were going, I love that drive. Have a good time.

Just pull over and rest when you get tired.

From Southern Cali to Portland, Oregon is a straight shot on I-5. It's about a 5 hour drive from the stateline where Oregon meets Cali, to arrival in Portland.
As a Portland native, just wanted to say "welcome," and I hope you have a great visit. The weathers starting to get chilly, don't forget your hat.
Peace

We drove from San Diego to Seattle took us about 14 hrs. See if you can drive with a friend. It makes the time go faster and help with driving plus anything else that may happen on the way. God bless your journey.

take lots of money for gas and do not stop often. so when you do make a pit stop make sure to get a lot of food and what ever you like. but trust me if you want to make it in 3 days top, then do not stop unless you really have to stop.

250 MILES SHOULD ONLY TAKE YOU 5 TO SIX HOURS!
