You have to realise that our sense of humour is different from an Americans, we say allot of stuff that might be considered rude but that's just our way of having a laugh. I'm sure when you get to the U.K. you'll realise that we're much more sociable than you wonderful Americans. See what I did there, that was sarcasm. |

I just came back from a vacation in the UK. They don't like Bush but have nothing against the American people. Everyone was very helpful and polite. Visit the UK and have a great time (and great tea too). |

You're not hated at all.
We have many visitors here, from many different countries.
The US, and Britain are forever cousins, and we appreciate your visits, and your love of our country. |

Don't believe all you are told. Try us and see what you think. There's nothing like getting first hand knowledge to find out the truth, |

This is just generalisation...Just like anywhere u come across good and bad..try the North the people are so much friendlier and if you are coming for the scenery the countryside is so much nicer in the Lake District, you just can't beat it!..i'm sure you'll be made to feel very welcome. |

No-one is hated because of where they come from, the whole UK Vs USA thing is just a matter of pride for eachother's country and 'who's better'. I would class it as a generalization. However I do warn you if you come into the UK with an attitude of 'Americans are better' We are not responsible for our actions, only jkin'!
I, behalf of the UK would like to welcome you into our country. You shouldn't let anybody else say any different. Yes, Come see our Queen! |

I have met quite a few Americans in my lifetime (I am 57) and individually you are okay - alright you don't speak English properly but I can forgive that. It is the mass effect of "we are bigger and better and so much louder than you" I, and most people, do not like.
Come over here and see your mother country, one day we will forgive you and let you back into our empire and you can get rid of Bush and the Queen will make the White House one of her homes. :-)
Hey a better idea get rid of Bush and we will give you Prince Charles. |

Completely untrue. Individual Americans have always been liked here in the UK.
There are criticisms of your government, but never think that applies to the American people.
I go to America often and I never experience the silly comments and bigotry you see on here from time to time! |

There is a large vociferous muslim minority who get far too much airtime. Many of them really do hate the US for attacking and causing the deaths of thousands of their co-coreligionists in Iraq and for your country's unswerving and uncritical support of Israel.
The rest of us, the vast majority, are not happy about Iraq, but nor are most of you.
You can expect people not to be as friendly as they used to be to US citizens because of Iraq but this is what you must pay for voting for Bush. Bush's foreign policy has made the world a less safe place for you all.
Having said that, come on over. It is completely safe but you will find that people are less pro-American than they used to be. |

Im from Birmingham and traveled all over England. Its pretty multi-cultural and tolerant to foreigners. Plus the tourist areas like Stratford are always full of Americans and noone seems to be bothering them. If anyone gave you trouble, theyre stupid and most English people would think the same! Dont worry about it! |

Please come to the UK, and don't be put of by anything you might hear. There are rude people everywhere, and they tend to be heard more than kind ppl maybe.. When you say the UK do you mean London? or do you intend visiting the north of England, or Scotland Ireland Wales, were all part of the UK...
Wherever you choose, i hope you have a great time, and maybe make some friends.... : x ) |

It is just a generalisation. Just like americans thinking that all brits are upper class. (We are so not!!)
I meet quite a few americans during the course of my work and they cope quite happily here. They do tend to get ripped off quite a lot though. You need to make sure that you totally understand the exchange rate cos brits, especially taxi drivers, with take you for a fool moneywise.
Another thing is that some americans I've met can come across a bit abrupt and rude. Only one or two of them, and I'm sure it's not intentional.
On the other hand, you can't beat a little bit of deep southern charm! A polite young man saying, "Thank you ma'am" Mmmmmmm! Yum!
Do come to britain if you want to. I'm sure you'll be well received and I hope you have fun. |

it is a bit of a generalisation. british people dont really have a problem with americans as long as you're not really loud. some british people tend to stereotype and think that many americans are loud and obnoxious (which some unfortunately are...) just try not to be too patriotic (especially about your government) and if all else fails, saying that your Canadian will get you off the hook (most british wont be able to tell the difference) as someone else said, try the north of england and scotland. they tend to be friendlier and theres great scenery as well as some fantastic cities; manchester, newcastle, edinburgh, to name but a few! |

That's rubbish, unless you come here acting like a pumped up Rambo or a southern baptist minister. As other yahooer's have said americans have a different type of humour(humor). If you have the monty python type you're half english anyway.Try not to be too perfect or hollywood and you'll be fine
Is it really true americans think all brits hate them? How sad.We do take the pi66 a bit but thats not personal.By the way,we don't all live in castles or are working as butlers
Welcome |

We don't hate anybody (Well maybe the French) but apart from them, we just either tolerate people or we think we are so far above them that we just ignore them. |
