If you are on a budget, I'd recommend the international hostel on the upper west side. Google "international hostelling" for contact info. It's relatively inexpensive, plus you have the ability to meet a large diversity of other travellers.

The Chelsea Hotel -the only place to stay.
For the history - you can fee it as you walk into the Lobby
Just too cool.
I was there in April 2001 and friends tell me just as cool/wild

The Carter Hotel on 43rd St. btwn 8th ave. and Broadway. It's cheap if that's what you want.

Depends on if you are willing to spend big bucks. The Mariott Marquis in Times Square is the NICEST hotel in the whole city. The Waldorf Astoria on Park and 50th (I think) is pretty nice too. A lot of movies are filmed there.

Craig_Boumphrey
The Roosevlet on Madison Ave/45th St. Great stunning hotel in the center of the city.

Hi !

I am heading to New York in Sept myself (my first time) and hoping to stay on Seventh Ave so I can be near the studio where I'm taking a 3 days course.

If you do come across any good accom on that street, let me know please ???!!!

We stayed at the Travel Inn at 515 West 42nd Street. It's reasonable (for NY) and fairly well placed.
