You’re more likely to be injured or killed driving to the airport than being involved in a plain crash. All aspects of your flight are conducted by FAA certified professionals. This includes the pilot, air traffic controllers, mechanics, etc. all of whom are dedicated to safety and ensuring that your flight arrives at your destination without indecent. Cay you say the same for every driver you encounter on the road?
I recommend that you go to a busy airport and watch the planes take off and land for few hours if not for a day. Then check out your television news and read the newspaper to see which one of them crashed. Of course, you won’t find any. In fact, there hasn’t been a large scale crash by a major U.S. carrier since 2001 despite the fact that there were over sixty one million takeoffs and landings last year according to the FAA. Realizing this may help you overcome your anxiety.
Once you get over this fear you will discover that flying is fun, and the door will be open to more delightful travel locations. Sit back and enjoy the view. You can see so many cool things from the air that you can’t see from the ground, and flying at night is beautiful.

I flew from Connecticut to Hawaii in 1986 and it was my first flight ever. It was great. No problems. You'll be just fine.

The plane ride from LA to Hawaii is about 6 hours.

I wouldn't worry too much about the plane crashing........you are more likely to die in a car crash than in a plane crash and how many times a year do you ride in a car.

Happy travels!

The best way to conquer your fear is to face it. That way you prove to yourself that you are stronger than your fear.

Especially in this case, after you have faced down your fear, you have Hawaii to look forward to.

If you are still unconvinced, you can send me your tickets, and I will go instead of you.

when was the last time you saw on the news "plane crashes" im 15 and i have never seen that happen. at least not by accident. there is always 9/11. but with the new securitiy in airports there is nothing to be afraid of. YOU ARE GOING TO PARADISE. ENJOY!!!!!!

Christine S
I used to have the same fear, but after a while, you just get used to it. I fly too much. Everyone is right, you are more likely to die in a car crash, but you get in a car just about everyday, don't you? The flight from LA to Hawaii is generally about 5- 6 hours (if there are no unexpected delays) The only thing you SHOULD be scared of is the price of meals on the plane! (bring cash!) Other than that, relax and have some fun!

My daughter has flown from the west coast to Hawaii by yourself at least 10 times, since she was 8 years old.
You'll be fine. Make sure you register to get your frequent flyer miles, they may come in handy later to get a free ticket or an upgrade to a better seat.
I have never heard of a crash between Hawaii and the mainland, in a regular airline or military flight. I wouldn't worry.
Look at some videos in YouTube and it will help you think about all the fun you'll have when you get here.

Think about it this way.
Statisticaly plane crushes happen hundreds time less often then car crashes,
it is just - we used to cars more.
Flight is about 5-6 hours, it is NOT too long at all.
You are going to be just fine!

It is totally fine I have been twice, once when I was like 3 and once when I was 7 or 8. DO NOT WORRY. you chances of crashing are about 1 in 1,000,000. My Grandpa lives there and he flys back and forth all the time. (atleast four times a year) and Nothing has ever happened to him. You will be safe! hawaii is a great experience. Be Happy!

Don't be scared.. nothing bad is going to happen!!
The flight is from 5 1/2 to 6 hours long...
Stop thinking negative because it will only make you not want to go and Hawaii is a place that you don't want to die without seen..
Besides remember that not only planes crash.. also any method of transportation (cars, trains, air ballons, horses (haha), etc.)..
And the best part is that there not as much traffic in the sky as there is here on the ground.. so think positive and enjoy your trip to Hawaii.. "Hang loose"

MAUIBABE
don't be scared, the ride will be fine, and you're going to Hawaii, what could be better!!!! Most airplanes like Continental have tv screens right in front of you and you can watch whatever movie you want, trust me, when you're watching movies times flies so fast. I was nervous too first time, it was a 12 hr flight from Houston but it ended up being pretty smooth all the way, took magazines and crossword puzzles to keep me occupied or i would fall asleep..You'll be fine, please don't think that way, I will pray you get there safely.

soccerref is right, try to relax. The flight from SLC to LA is about 2 hours. If you are really anxious, and are flying with some one, take a Benedryl before you board. It may make you sleepy, and that could help you relax. If you are flying by yourself, bring along distractions. My 15 year old son was just here from Florida for a visit, and he flew straight from Atlanta, and that was a 10 hour flight. He had his MP3 player and some books. A small hand held game is a good distraction as well. Just keep thinking about the stuff you get to do and the pictures you have to share with friends, and try not to worry too much. I hope you have a great time here.

You have nothing to be afraid of! I have flown to Hawaii ten times. If you are that apprehensive about flying you may want to see your MD for a tranquilizer before you fly. I am flying out of LA to Maui August and I don't ever think about crashing. More people a day are killed by car accidents than plane crashes. Go and enjoy yourself!

clearedapproach
Whatever the statistics show on the safety of air travel, say for example 1 million to 1 that you'll crash and every one says it's very safe, including me. All that matters is that 1 if it happens to you. Though safe, nothing is 100 %.

I'm from Hawaii and live in California and have flown that route many times. They fly big, multi-engine craft with a large crew...lots of redundancy for safety. It's an uneventful flight with nothing to see out the window because it's ocean.

...and all that ocean means no crowded skies with planes going in all kinds of directions and crossing your plane's flight path, no mountains to run into, and calm high altitude atmosphere. In fact, statistically, it's probably safer than your flight from SLC to LA!
