I am going to houston Texas on vacation for 10 days, what are the must see?

There's the Theater District just west of Main Street you could look at. It's the second largest theatrical center after NYC. As well, the nearby Bayou Place entertainment complex would be your best bet. You could be in for a surprise when you get there. Catch the light rail to travel halfway south of downtown to the city's museum district, the second largest after Chicago. There are several museums to choose from only less than a mile from the light railway. Try the beaches of nearby island suburb Galveston or some of the other coastal communities in the nearby area.

Thats a good list above by txhypnotist, BUT only 2 of those things are in Houston. The rest are in either suburbs that are 30-45 mnuts from town, or galveston which is 1:15 from town.

There is also the Texas BattleShip museum/tour
Tons of golf courses
Dining out is a big thing, so Tons of restaurants.(thats the locals entertainment to some degree, hence why houston is the 'fatest' city in the US)
Splashtown in Spring(suburb, waterpark) Though if you don't mind a few hour drive Schlitterbahn in New Braunfels is one of the top 10 waterparks in the world.
Hobby Center puts on Broadway shows Operas etc...

Get down to Galveston & take the ferry back & forth. I don't think there's much to do on the island, but the trip is great. Have a picnic on the beach (but the water's gross). The Aquarium restaurant (downtown Houston or Kemah Boardwalk) is fun, but expensive.

5.Houston Museum of Natural Science.
6. Space Center Houston and Nasa Space Center in Clear Lake
7.Clear Lake for boating and jet ski's, third Largest Marina area in the USA.
8.Katy Mills Mall is also a large mall.
9.The Forbidon City near Katy.
10.Seaworld in Galveston

There is an I max downtown, you could tour NASA (I45 South to Clear Lake), The Kemah Board walk is a little past NASA. The Astros may have a game at Minute Maid Park (Downtown US59 @ I-10) it's really nice.

I've heard just recently that Astroworld shut down. I hope that's wrong, because it's a lot of fun. If it isn't shut down and you like theme parks, go check it out, it's along I610 south near 288.

I almost forgot the Galleria shopping mall is along I610 on the southwest side of town. You can ice skate on the lower level.

The Zoo but not during the heat of the day.

The Aquarium for a very nice dinner, a ferris wheel ride, and a train ride.

Kemah Boardwalk is fun it isn't tooo far.

Galveston Islands is about 30 minutes away. (don't quote me...but it isn't too far)

Go to Dave And Busters for dinner, and to play games..it is soo fun. It is a good way to spend your evening w/ a drink ( of all kinds, ) and virtual games . Look them up on the web.

I hope you are good w/ directions.. it took me years of going to Houston to find my way around,,because most of the people who live there,,dont' really travel but in the area that they live in.
Although they are really really nice and will try to point you in the right direction,, I would get a good large print map.

Visit Downtown, but only during the daytime. Visit the Houston Underground section, which is a series of underground tunnels over a 6-8 block area connecting the various office buildings. That has many good small shops and eateries. Also, visit Chesterfield's, a laid-back American cuisine restaurant/neighborhood bar deal; that's near Toyota Center and the Hilton Houston Americas.

The Toyota Center is where the Houston Rockets play, but of course, they're not in the NBA finals, so you can't really do that. Go watch the Astros play at Minute Maid Park, also Downtown. That is a beautiful ballpark!

The Galleria, off I-610 (West Loop) at Westheimer, is in a very heavily congested and developed part of the city, but it is also one of the largest shopping malls in the world; there are about 375 stores and restaurants and a luxury hotel. The complex, in total, takes about a 12-14 block area. It's massive!

NASA Johnson Space Center is on Highway NASA 1 off the Gulf Freeway (I-45 South of Downtown by about 20 miles.) A very important icon in American aviation history. Farther down I-45, visit the City of Galveston; the Strand, the beach, Moody Gardens (greenhouse/amusement park (kinda sorta)/zoo/nature center) are all things you must see there. It's a very beautiful, historic town with charming old homes and storefronts, and the Strand backs into the Harbor on Galveston Bay, it makes for almost a feel of Charleston, SC. And, Galveston has some of the friendliest people you'll ever meet. Oh yeah, the best beaches are on the western side of Galveston Island; they're much cleaner and quieter.

Know a little something about the traffic grid: log onto http://www.houstontranstar.org even before your vacation, and get to know the city's road system better. What you will find is that the major arteries--I-10, I-45, I-610, and US 59--are in a constant state of congestion. I-10 West (Katy Freeway) is being widened to 12-18 lanes, and the construction out there is awful; US 59 South (Southwest Freeway) is being widened to 12-14 lanes. I-45 North and South are constantly backed up, as is 610. If you stay Downtown, just be prepared for that. If you have to circumnavigate the city for any reason, I suggest the Sam Houston Tollway (Beltway 8). Sure, it's kinda far out, and the tolls are a little pricy (not bad though,) but it doesn't have nearly the traffic issues as the other thoroughfares.

The Museum of Natural Science.... they have a butterfly exhibit, IMAX and other cool stuff to see and do. While you're there, catch some growls at the zoo, see the Museum of Fine Arts and the holocaust museum. Nothing like the Museum district for stuff to keep you busy. If you want some really great food and fun people watching, check out Baba Yega in the Montrose.
