In NYC,pretty much you won't need to worry about entertainment, because there's some everywhere you go.You see things you never seen anywhere else before.Bring a camera, take a lot of pictures. And,save those $30 as much as you can because you will need food. And,it's not cheap in NYC,depending on the area you will go.
I would say, bring food from home, make a picnic at Central Park.Save about $10 to get some water and beef parties or pizza later on the evening.
Go sightseeing, maybe visit the World Trade Center area.It is free.
But,one thing though. You will need a metro card to go places, and that's $2 for each person EACH WAY.Or if you have a car,you will need parking money because they will give tickets easily or revoke your car, depending on the situation.
If you will take the subway to places,I suggest you buying the ALL Day unlimited metro card, which is $7 for each person. That is a must if you don't have transportation.
Good Luck. |

Thirty dollars? About the only thing you can do is do window shopping, and lunch at a fast food place, and the $30 is gone. |

Go to central park. Tons of free fun there. |

Walk around Chinatown. There's lots of culture, and if you get hungry, you can fill up, and still have $25 left. |

While 2 all day metro cards will eat up half of your bank roll, the ability to get to and from places w/ out walking multiple miles will leave you considerably less hungry.
A little known fact is that admission to both the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the American Museum of Natural History *is on a suggested donation basis. If you have the nads to do it you can actually get into either one them for a buck. You could literally spend all day in either museum.
The Staten Island Ferry is free
Walking in Manhattan is free
Walking across the Brooklyn Bridge is free and cool to do
Since you are mobile you can check out all sorts of fun things and neighborhoods.
If you are in Chinatown lunch specials will give you more value for the dollar than Mickey D's will. better food too
*I just called the Museum of Natural History, as of 2:17PM today the suggested donation policy is still in effect.
Have fun |

Central Park is beautiful. You might want to visit "Strawberry Fields" , the shrine dedicated to John Lennon. |

There are so many things to do there, too bad you couldn't save that bit of money until you incurred a bigger amount. Well there are museums that charge no admission, window shopping is always free, and thank God Mc Donalds has a dollar menu yet! |

with that much money you can afford to eat at mcdonalds and treat yourself to some rootbeer, then go walk it off in the park:) |

I think that's a great idea. What about food thoough? You should watch $40 a day on the Food Network. I think you can make it work, just do not go into any place expecting to buy anything. |

free stuff... you can take the staten island ferry for free.. why is this fun you ask? it is the closest you can get to the statue of liberty for free and you can also get some really great pictures of downtown manhattan on the way back... the museaums are no longer free they used to be free or there was a "suggested donation" those days are over you have to pay now and they only offer free days on certain week days... central park is free of course... time square is free... im sure walking around will take a good amount of time it also depends on where in town you are and what neighborhood your in |

Put on your walking shoes and open your eyes. People watching in NYC is the absolute best. Start the day early and walk to the Today Show watch the taping and be seen on TV. Take a picnic lunch to Central Park. Ride the bus to Chinatown and eat at the Perfect Dumpling, where they have cheap cheap amazingly delicious food. Have FUN! |
