I live in Broadalbin, NY which is in the adirondacks. Its beautiful up here!!!

There is ft. william henry in lake george (the lake itself is awesome too, they have day cruises) The fort is where most of the book and movie "the last of the mohicans" took place. its supposed to be haunted, and they have an actual ancestor of the native american tribe that attacked

Saratoga springs is also near there, famous for horse racing, beautiful victorian houses, b &b's and shopping!!! the main strip has all sorts of cute shops

Driving and staying in cabins in the adirondacks is also beautiful.

All these places are 3 hrs away from NYC

You've got Adirondack Park in NY. The Niagara Falls area is fun in an old-fashioned tacky carnival way, with lots of "museums" on the Canadian side. From NYC, Ithaca (In the Finger Lakes region) is about 200 miles of beautiful scenery away and is home to some of the nicest natural scenery that I've ever seen on the east coast. It's a cultural epicenter as well - home to Cornell U. and considered by many to be the Haight-Ashbury of the east.

Mini road trip?
Take a few things into consideration before even planning out where to go.

Can you check into a hotel room if needed?
(A lot of places in AZ require you to be 18 for that)
How far are you willing to drive?
How many days are you willing to drive?

I don't know where you could go, though.

Do you like hiking? Pyramid Mountain in Boonton, NJ is beautiful.

How about one of the dude ranches in NY state?
I've been to two of them and I think they are great. Most of them have indoor pools and plenty for kids to do..horse back riding, skiing, sledding..and they are all inclusive.
One name that comes to mind is Rocking Horse Ranch, I know they have a web site..check it out!

What do you like to do? There are all sorts of museums in manhattan, there are broadway shows to see, central park.
There is the bronx zoo which is a great place to go, and yankee stadium as well. In Brooklyn, there is coney island, and the botanical gardens.
Take them on the circle line which is a boat trip around Manhattan go to the statue of liberty and ellis island.
Not much to do in northern nj, except shop. There are malls everywhere. That might be more the style of teen girls.

go home, you kids are barely old enough to drive.
But if you're flying, thats perfectly fine. Statue of Liberty of course, you HAVE to go there if ur in NYC. Emprie state building is i think $30 per person to get to the top.
