I went there three years ago for my honeymoon - it was fab!

We loved:
Empire State Building - best at about sunset as you can take piccys in daylight and then at night.

Statue of Liberty - good trip and not too badly priced, if I remember rightly. You get to go to Liberty Island first where there is a small museum, caff etc and unlike when we went, I think you can actually now go up to the top of the statute itself. You also get to go to Ellis Island on the way back which is included in the price. This is where all the immigrants to US in the early 1900s went to be processed. I thought that sounded quite boring until we went there. It was really interesting and well worth the visit. Expect to take most of the day doing this and when we went it was b----y freezing!

Little Italy/China Town - Great for delis, eateries and souvenirs that are a little bit different. I wouldn't expect to stay there all day but it's worth a look if nothing else.

You could combine it with a visit to Ground Zero which is within walking distance. I thought GZ would be a hole in the ground and not much else but I was very wrong. The sight of the tributes to those that died especially the emergency service workers still brings a lump to my throat and I think there is a museum there now as well.

You could go the length of Fifth Avenue really passing GZ, Little Italy etc on the way back from Statue of Liberty if you went by taxi and see the difference from one end to the other - hard to think it is the same street.

Times Square - Only really good after dark of course. There's a huge Toys R Us there with a ferris wheel inside and Hersey's Chocolate store which smells gorge.

Central Park - Wonderful place and there's the zoo there as well. You could also pop into Trump Towers on the way past and see if you can spot the worst weave in the world. You could combine that with a quick whizz round the stores - Macy's, Bloomingdales, FAO Schwartz.

It's all good, really. You can get a limo to and from the airport as well for quite a reasonable price so you can arrive in style. There are also helicopter rides but I don't know how much they are. Beware though the security at the airport. They are really surly when you arrive and not much better when you leave. They really go to town on the checks when you come back so you need to leave at least 3 hours - yes, 3 hours - to clear security when you come back.

Have a great time - I'm sure you will. :-)

If i were you i would nip to Tiffany's, Saks, Macy's & bloomingdales but dont pin your hopes on actually buying anything not unless you shop at harbey nichols & selfridges all the time because they are just the same. I really enjoyed Woodbury Common its about $30 on the bus but it is def worth it for cheap shopping i got some real bargains. Central Park is great & i liked battery park & ground zero something a little different. Another must is to have an evening meal at the mariott in time square very nice & not bad value.

i would recommend the loop the loop bus, its and open top bus that takes you round the sites and gives information, pretty good. definately take in a show, but would book online before going as the queues are long and the film and movie tour is good, shows you where places are filmed and some stars might be there on location! Shopping is a must, but remember to try and not take big boxes on the plane as a woman who was on the plane has to leave the box behind, she didnt check it in. enjoy

South street sea port, ground zero, century 21 and the financial district are great - i was disappointed by times square but loves central park and make sure you go to serendipities for frooozzzzen hot chocolate.

its a great place - we staying in brooklyn and loved that too! we dod all of the usual touristy things and had a fantastic time

Go into the Europe Cafe on Times Square for your breakfast - they've got the most amazing food ever!!! I went to see all the usual touristy things when i was there last year - Empire state building (go early in the morning to save queuing if you want to go to the top of it), Central Park (was amazing), Statue of Liberty (wasn't really that exciting) and Times Square (quite small). You'll have a great time tho! I didn't want to come back home! Have fun!

Have lunch or dinner at the Tavern in the Green, Central Park. It is a truly magical place. Do book a table. Their number is 212 873 3200. Go and see ground zero. It is very frightening and eery, yet also humbling. A great way to see new York at night is to take a dinner cruise- You will see New York lit up and it is absolutely spectacular. Have fun!

curiousness
go to a bar called Hoga and Heffers... it is a biker bar but great fun... check out the "wall of bras" where females have been coerced in to parting with their bras.. Bette Midlers is up there.

I know it sounds corny, but you should definitely get tickets to go on the NYC tour bus. I'm not sure if that is the correct name, but you definitely won't miss it. It's a big red double decker bus and takes you to every single place in the city that's worth seeing. It's awesome! You can get off at any stop you'd like and hop right back on when you're ready to leave and go to the next area. My best friend and I went a few months ago and we saw SO many things that we never would have even known about if we didn't take that bus. You'll thank me later!
