I am taking my first trip to Vegas. What are some things I should know?

The list here could be unbelievably long. There a million things to do in Vegas for free or cheap. Start by just walking around and looking at everything. The size of the hotels and casinos in unbelievable.

If you go down to the old strip there is this awesome light show at night which it totally free and the water show at Bellagio is free too and very pretty. Also don't forget to wear comfortable shoes and not new ones!!! You don't realize how much walking you will do.

The weather in April is... a bit unpredictable. It can be completely sunny on one side of the Strip and raining on the other. I would recommend taking a light jacket, umbrella, and sunblock. Make sure you have a lot of water, because depending on where you're from, you need to keep hydrated during the day, temperatures can get up into the 90's sometimes.

There is a lot of shopping, and the best places to go are the Forum Shops and Grand Canal Shops. Both places have excellent shopping, and the Venetian has Madam Tussaud's Wax Museum and the Gondolas. The forum has talking statue shows that are pretty cheesy but fun. The Bellagio has a free atrium and the water show. We also have an indoor theme park, its pretty cheesy, but its fun and only $20 for an all day pass, its called the AdventureDome at Circus Circus, theres a ton of rides, and its like a big carnival. Its the big magenta building on the north end of the strip. Plus if you're visiting in April most likely it won't be busy, most of the kids are in school.

Just ask around when you get here, and don't spend all of your time gambling, because the odds are against you. Go to Hoover Dam, it's only about 45 minutes away, go see a show, I recommend Phantom of the Opera, its not as expensive as the other shows, but its amazing! Or, the Second City, also, not expensive, but HILARIOUS!

Don't eat all your meals in Buffets either, there are great inexpensive places to eat on the strip. The Fashion Show Mall is another great mall, they've got awesome places to eat there. Like I said, ask your concierge or locals, people are generally pretty nice, and they'll help you out if you ask! Remember, WEAR COMFY shoes, or by the end of your trip, your feet will be screaming.

the weather there in April is perfect. We went in July and it was over 100 degrees. I liked Harrahs for the "loose" slots and Caesars Palace.

Just make sure you have a hotel...their have been many times my hubby and I had to sleep in the car because of a weird convention that week. Also Try to walk in populated areas, some areas are bad so don't go off the path.

Go see the show in front of treasure island, its free and cool, they make the ship in front go down. pretty cool. the buffet at harrahs is pretty cheap and go to as many buffets as possible because they are my favorite part about las vegas. Ive been there a hundred times and still cant gamble, so dont worry, there are tons of things to do. If you are coming from california, stop at the stateline at buffalo bill and ride the roller coaster, its huge. and there are plenty of coaster all over vegas, there is a cool one in front of new york new york, and there is one called the strasophere. There is a really cool attraction inside the mgm, if you happen to like startrek you will love it, you get teleported, which is a lot more fun than it sounds. I also suggest going to the excaliber and seeing the knights of the round table, which is a show with horses that you watch while you eat (with no forks).

well for one. watch out for the perverts on the streets. they're everywhere! secondly, theres alot of expensive things. only a small selection are cheap and third, TAKE ME WITH YOU!!!!!!!!!!

First of all get familuar with the place and surroundings. There are alot of ways to save money. First of all if you walk along the strip you will notice people standing about giving out free tickets to night clubs which not only do you get in for free but you also avoid the long queue as you can just walk straight in which is awesome as it can save alot of time! You can also get free tickets to some shows although i have not tried this out but if that is your kinda thing then go for it, i mean what have you got to loose. There are some cheap resturants aswell near Ceasars Palace and the Flamingo hotel. Its really all about looking around for the best possible deals and alot of it involved common sense i guess. Never have to many alcohlic drinks before gambling as whilst you are in the casinos you will be offered free drinks which can be very tempting as i found out but yet you will loose your money so quickly which ruins the night. If you go there with a certain budget and stick to that on a daily basis then you should be fine. It worked for me the second time i went there.
There is this free animal show aswell in the Bellagio hotel which involved the white tigers, pretty cool. The shops offer a variety of prices depending on what you like and there are two retail outlets about 2 miles from the strip which are great and it does not cost that much to get there in a taxi, about $10.
Take some trips to the Grand Cannon or to the Hoover dam. The Grand Cannon is an amzing experience for such a good price which included a helicopter ride over Las Vegas. The weather in April is about 80C and from that month it gets hotter. Oh and also if you are going with male friends stay away from most of the call girls. They will try just about anything with you and are really expensive.
I have been there twice now from England and its just an amazing experience. Have fun mate.

Do all the normal tourist tours along the "strip", and the downtown walking areas. See the hotels, take some pictures, check out the night time shows, etc. Stay away from all slot machines as they are actually very costly and a waste of time. There are tons of activites besides the ritzy glitzy stuff. Visit the Hoover dam, Grand Canyon, golf....
Try the buffet at the Rio but save money for great restaurants away from the strip and tourist areas. There are too many activities to list. Hey, it's Vegas, what do you expect?
Try to get a window seat on the plane, the view from the air is great both day and night.

I liked the Tropicana. It was dated but clean and at the south end. I got the best rate at their site. I kept watching and every time it went down I called. I got an upgraded room for less than $50 a night during beginning of Oct. I also joined their players club and got money off when I checked out because of my comps getting generously doubled by them. And we got cash back. We did not gamble much at all. It was close to NYNY where I liked to hang for the cheap and good eats.
The Aladdin spice market buffet is not all that like the Vegas guides say. And the Fremont experience didn't do much for me either. It just seemed drearier down there.

For starts, the Bellagio fountains on the Strip and there are a lot of things not far away like museums, ect. You can take a tour to Hoover Dam and Lake Mead.

You're correct in not gambling, but if you do, don't play a game other than Blackjack, learn Basic Strategy and don't play at a table that says "6 to 5," because that's a sucker rule that the casinos came out with, and it's all over town now.
