4 hours is enough time to take in the Golden Gate Bridge and Fisherman's Wharf. Those are at the top of the list for must-see in San Francisco. Good luck! |

Fisherman's Wharf - and make sure you go to Ghiriadelli's chocolate store. If you want some great food, check out Bubba Gump Shrimp Restaurant right at Fisherman's Wharf. |

I love San Francisco. My husband and I got married in the bay area. My favorite places to go are Fisherman's Wharf. You gotta get the clam chowder in the sourdough bowls. There's cute little sea lions that sit on the docks there. Then you gotta see Lombard Street.. it's that really crooked road. Head on over to Chinatown because that's real neat too. I'd skip on the Ghirardelli store because you can buy that chocolate anywhere. Then head over towards the Golden Gate Bridge. There's an old fort down there that you can roam around. It's pretty neat. Don't forget to take a loaf of sourdough home. They even sell the clam chowder in cans there. It's real good. |

Forget Fishermans' Wharf - it sucks. Go instead to the Haight-Ashbury part of the city. Great boutique stores, cafes, bars, colourful characters and hippy-era leftovers. It's small enough to see most of in the time you've got. |

ride the cable car down to fisherman's wharf. YOU HAVE TO RIDE THE CABLE CARS! |

Ride the cable car from downtown to Fisherman's Wharf and Pier 39. If you have time after that, walk through Chinatown and eat at the Empress of China. |

It is raining, so that affects your choices a bit.
Golden Gate Bridge as seen from the Marina is lovely, but may be obscured by clouds.
The Cliff House is a restaurant perched over the edge of the city facing the Pacific: fantastic view if you want to pause for a meal.
But I suggest, ultimately, the following:
1. Start at the Ferry Building. It's been redone as a Farmers' Market and has a lot of the best of SF dining inside. Cowgirl Creamery cheese, Slanted Door Restaurant. Peets' Coffee. The truffle and mushroom shop. MMMMM.
2. From there, you are close to Chinatown. Best seen on foot because driving is a nightmare. Amble down grant street and grab some 3 for $10 shirts as souvenirs
3. From there Buzz through North Beach. If you are literary, stop and pay homage at City Lights bookstore owned by Lawrence Ferlenghetti and where such authors as Alan Ginsberg and Jack Kerouac got launched. Across the street is gold mountain restaurant which has great dim sum.
4. This would be a good time to swing by for a view of the Golden Gate Bridge as described above.
Alternatively, for the kid in you, go to Pier 39 and Ghirardelli Square, wander around, look at the stuff, eat junky food, and have a lot of fun! It's close to North Beach.
YOu should have no trouble catching a Cable Car at some point on your trip.
Have fun and Welcome! |

I agree, Fisherman's wharf, China town is also cool. They have a great science/technology museum, but i don't think there is time. |

Fisherman's Wharf, The Golden Gate Bridge - do drive across - or walk; check out Lombard Street; Seal island, China Town. You're out of time... :) |

you can take BARTS from the airport $5.10 or 15 each way, get off at the Powell station, and you'll be down town for shopping, if you don't want to shop you can catch the f line for $1.50 down to fisherman’s wharf, witch also has Boudin’s sourdough bread, and chowder. Then you can walk up to Ghirardelli square for some ice cream and chocolate. You can see the golden gate bridge from there, and if you want a little nostalgia catch the cable car back to Powell or china town, and get on BARTS. I LOVE SFO. Cable car is like $12 round trip, and is cool to do at least once, but the line is so long, and the old street cars work just fine for $1.50 |

What's up?
SF is a fun city, i was there around the same time last year.
Alcatraz prison is a must (tour takes about 3 hrs, so you can easily be on time), Golden Gate Bridge, ride one of the trolleys from Fisherman's Wharf to the downtown and back, and many other things, but since you've got only 4 hrs :-) |
