Because of it's location it looked like you might have lost it. Leave it out in the open. Customary place is on the dresser with a thank you note. Leaving a dollar a day per person is fine. Do not leave it all at the end because of staff rotation you have have a different person each time clean your room and only one will get the whole tip. Funny how most people will not leave a tip for the one person who cleans up after them but will tip someone who opens a door. |

Perhaps she didn't realise it was a tip. |

You asked this same question in the Etiquette section a few hours ago and got reasonable answers.
First of off, she isn't allowed to take anything out of the room. She could be fired for that.
Two, a $1.00 tip?!?! Come on! |

She probably didnt think it was a tip. Leave it on the table somewhere and maybe even write a note. |

Maybe they think you just left it under the pillow to see if they would take it...as in steal it. You may have to leave a note next time. I wouldn't take it either unless I knew they were not coming back to the room and have checked out. |

Next time try putting the tip smack dab in the middle and on top of the pillow. And you should try giving more than a buck. |

She probably didn't look under the pillow or didn't realize it was a tip... Besides, the going rate is $3-$5 a day unless you leave a mess. You need to leave it in an envelope or with a note that clearly says "Housekeeping - Thank you!"
BTW - dude, you ARE cheap. A dollar a day? The current going rate is at least $3 to $5 a day. |

She probably thought you dropped it under your pillow, and didnt realize this was a tip. Who tips one dollar? I'd think that would almost be an insult... and under the pillow? put it on the dresser or the nightstand...
Sometimes no tip is better than a cheap tip... I'd think. |

She would not have know it was left for her as a tip, it is not the custom in US or UK to leave money under the pillow. The best place to leave it would be under a note saying for house keeping, thank you on your bedside table or desk. It was a good gesture but misunderstood I think. She may have thought it had dropped out of your pocket or whatever, they are very careful as often they may be accused of helping themselves to something which is not for them.
Ask the people complaining if they leave $1 a day themselves, if each room did this it would soon add up and help the housekeeping staff. People are quick to criticise something is better than nothing.
Keep up the good work |

They probably aren't allowed to take anything from the guests' room, especially money. Try leaving a note with it so he/she can have proof or leave a tip and/or a nice note at the front desk. |

Seriously, the maid is not the tooth fairy! People don't leave maids tips under their pillows. That's just ridiculous. Put it on the desk or night table the day you leave like normal people.. |

You don't put it under the pillow because housekeeping will think you dropped it. You put it on the dresser, maybe with the card they usually leave to evaluate their work. And you are right $1 per day per person is good. |
