Detroit is its own worst enemy in a million ways. I love the town but sometimes it just drives me crazy.
Like your favorite Uncle who gets drunk at Thanksgiving.
The Uncle that taught you how to pop a wheelie, use a BoyScout knife, tie a tie, the guy that was more like a cool older brother than an uncle with hair in his ears.
Thanksgiving day starts off fine, we're telling stories and laughing, watching the Lions, playing some touch football, more stories and I laugh so hard that beer shoots out my nose ... and then all of a sudden he's drunk.
Oh no, not a friendly kumBaYah smiling drunk. A f..ing demon drunk.
Swearing, bitching, fighting drunk. Bringing up some old slight from high school or grade school days. The sister's abortion in '73, Grandpa's affair with the neighbor lady, oh yeah, skellatons come pouring out of closets. Blaming Mr. Johnson at the Hardware for firing him after getting caught stealing tools.
BlahBlah we can't reason with him, and he still want to shout and now he wants to drive home.
That's Detroit.

I to live in Detroit. Been here for all of my 35 years and I will tell you, Detroit use to be a fun place growing up. It was much safer. More buildings and houses were standing. Less crime. I use to love Detroit so much and say that I would never leave. But it's not the city why it's so messed up, it's the people that live here. I am moving my family to Houston, Texas. Detroit hardly has family fun things for families to do. This city is mostly loaded with bars, topless bars, clubs, liquor stores and drugs! I'm not trying to dog Detroit but just telling the truth. A whole lot of people here are soooooo rude!!! And I hate the fact that it's so racially divided. 85% of us african americans in this city. I like to be around different races. It is not safe to be out at night especially on a Friday night when alot of people got their pay checks. You can tell they are so excited by the crazy way that they drive. I work at a local hospital in Detroit and on Friday nights, the ER is so packed with gun shot victims, stabbings and auto crash victims. If it wasn't for the churches here praying for the city and its people, this city would have gone to the dogs. Again what I'm telling you is the honest truth and I really hate to tell you these things seeing how this is my home where I was born. Then you have the major financial problems of the city. The city coucil is horrible and they are always arguing with the mayor. And what I don't understand is why the people of this city keep voting for the same city council members every term?? They always seem to vote for familiar names. Then when they get re-elected, they show there true colors by getting into bar fights. Anyway the people of Detroit or most of them don't do their research on the candidates to find out what they stand for. Some just vote for people just because they are democrat! They don't even know that back in the earlier times the Republican party was made up of african americans. Anyway I could go on about so many things that I didn't see when I was younger because I was out there to in the streets being blinded by the god of this evil world which is Satan himself. I pray that the people of this city wakes up and tries to get rid of their number 1 and 2 ranking in the worse crime in the nation for the past 4 years. Houston, Texas here we come. |

I was born and raised in Detroit
I proudly bought my first home in Detroit when I was just 19
I still have hopes and dreams that someday it will be more revitalized and thriving than it is right now
Detroiters have a tough strong spirit of pride |

Todd D has said everything that I had wanted to say,,
I want to say thank you to all my teachers at Pulaski elementary school they were the best around back then now the teachers don't really give a damn, (some of of them not all )
Since I had moved out my old neighborhood is a lost cause,, more empty homes, more drug houses and dealers, more hookers, lack of shopping centers, lack of public transport ion,
I won't ride the city buses because the bus drivers cannot drive (there are ton of close court cases /law suits against D-dot)
Cars are broken into and stolen right across form the ballparks, Hookers work the corners right across the street also,, I can go on and on, |

I've lived in and near Detroit most of my life. My main thought on the city is how much better it could be without corrupt and ignorant government. |

Yeah outside Mexicantown, SW Detorit is the most depressing part of town. It's haunted, polluted, and filled with gangs/prostitutes.
However, Detroit is a great city. It has so much spirit, uniqueness and history that no other city in America can match. |

I just moved to Detroit recently. (For work) I do the kind of work that is an economic stimulus. So, I am betting my life and my family's future on the idea that I'm the sort of guy that can fix Detroit's problems.
We really must Vote the "hip-hop mayor" out of office. He has had enough time at the wheel to prove he doesn't know how to drive.
Detroit has (and is) suffering from 3 decades of poor management at the hands of corrupt and simple-minded people.
Detroit has everything it needs to succeed: Good People, Good infrastructure, Solid tax base, and sufficient industry to reignite an economic engine.
Remember: "That which does not kill you, makes you stronger."
Have hope, and Detroit will be revived. Continue to despair, and Detroit will continue its decline. Maybe you aren't a superhero that can eradicate crime in your city, but you have the power to at least be hopeful. |

Like any city has it's good points and bad - unfortunately the image that sticks in my mind are of the neighbourhoods near the Ambassador Bridge - empty blocks with one or 2 houses standing - very sad and depressing. |

There are other cities that are almost as bad.
Almost.
But Detroit died years ago. Now it's just a rotting corpse that nobody bothered to bury.
How about the gunfights in the movie theaters?
How about nearly a dozen people getting shot in the middle of the afternoon, waiting for the fireworks display? And nobody could ever figure out who the shooter was?
How about a handful of Detroit cops at home one night, enjoying a poker party, and having a shoot-out with Wayne County deputies that broke in because there was 'a massive gambling operation' going on?
How about the the the robberies and rapes that occurred on I-75, yes, the Interstate! when cars would hit you and you had to stop because state law demanded it? And the State Police had to come in and take over the highways to restore safety?
Sure, call them isolated circumstances, but those are just a few out of dozens of daily problems in DetRIOT. Is it any wonder that Clinton Township, Shelby Township, Utica, etc is developing more each day, creeping ever closer to Flint? The high schools in that area are like small cities, all by themselves. |

Detroit is the worst city in the United States. The city will never recover. Crime, drugs, lack of good jobs make for a terrible place to live. |
